You have the power

It took me all of my 36 years on Earth to realise I had the power to make positive change. I used to be the epitome of cynicism, believing happiness was a mere delusion, and unattainable regardless.

I have never really been in a good place (until recently), but last year got particularly bad. I realised something had to change. So I uprooted myself from where I thought I belonged and began a journey of self-discovery. It felt counter-intuitive, but I couldn't think amongst the noise.

And so that's what I did: thought. I searched deep within myself and learned what I believe was at the root of my problems. It was an insight I could have only reached by removing myself from a chaotic environment.

It meant leaving some really good friends behind. Thankfully those relationships remain strong, but they had to trust in my intuition. It was an incredibly difficult decision, and it felt like a betrayal.

Do what's right for you. Identify your needs and wants, and use the power that is within us all. Time means change is inevitable. You have the strength to determine your future!

@jesusredeemedme2425

Sure! Would also like to know more about you, but you're not obligated to share if you don't want to.

On paper, I've had very little success. I withdrew half way through my final year of school as it was a nightmare. Years after I went to university and did extremely well for a whole year, but it burnt me out and broke me, landing me in the Adult Acute Unit for 8 months.

I wound up on a medication that zombified me for 10 years. I have little to no memory of that time. It was only through the insight of a close friend that I was able to get off said medication.

Initially I was ecstatic to feel alive again. But then the worst depression of my life hit... I'm sure you know what kind of path that can lead you on. It was not pretty!

I didn't know what was wrong. Why was life so hard? Through introspection and research, I came to learn I likely have ADHD. It was a revelation, and I felt so happy to be able to relate to people. I cried with joy that I finally understood how I could tackle life.

I'm living in possibly the worst place in town. But here, I found happiness and sobriety, and a willingness to live and help others that I've never known. That, to me, is greater than any success I could have achieved through school or work. I feel truly inspired.

Now, my journey involves helping others. I've walked in darkness my whole life, but now I know there's light. Depression is a monster... trying to kill it with kindness only seems to make it stronger. I'm determined to find a way to alleviate suffering in a positive and healthy way.
