I just listened to your track. Your voice is amazing pitch and tune wise. You can be a brilliant singer. I'm also a "singer", I mean, not professionally, but I play the guitar as well and to me you sing amazingly. 

However, we always need to consider tone variations, I mean, dynamics, register and volume when we pick a particular song. David Gates' recordings were always based on basically two types of register: chest and head voices. You don't have to sing like him, course not, but the impression I get when I listen to most of Bread's songs is how softly and tenderly he pronounces each word, each vowel and the volume only kicks in the chorus. 

You have a really good voice, maybe you don't know that, but more importantly, knowing how to use it is key if you wanna go down that road.
