MUSICAL THEATRE

Hey y'all it's Becca and I was wondering if any of you like musicals. Any of them. Like Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, Les Miserables, Wicked, Rent, Be More Chill, or even Phantom of the Opera. Here is a safe place where you can be yourself, obsess over characters (or actors), talk about who you ship, or MAKE ANY AND ALL LAME AND COMPLETELY AWESOME PUNS.

Have fun kids!

Frankly speaking, I don't know a lot of musicals but I watched several times the best known Andrew Lloyd's musicals. I mean, The Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar. They were awesome. The second even inspired me to buy a new bass amp (I got Orange Amplifier, there is a review on it https://musiety.com/a-complete-review-of-the-best-vox-bass-amps/) and started learning songs. It's awesome!

I absolutely LOVE Newsies! Not the Broadway stuff, the movie. I can't believe Jack Kelly (Christian Bale) is also Batman?? I think it is such a great musical and the music sounds absolutely amazing. The humor isn't old, cringey stuff but it's actually good! If you want to PM me and talk about Newsies, be my guest, because nobody else I know shares the love of it.

Family!!!! I have found you! I LOVE live theater! and I also LOVE musicals! So volunteering at our community theater is usually the bestest! I have seen three Broadway shows - kind of. As in, I have seen "Sunset Blvd," "RENT," and "The Music Man" but none of them did I see on Broadway. Whenever I get to NYC someday, I really must go to a Broadway show like ON Broadway.

My friend's husband says he doesn't like musicals because he says why would you just start singing in the middle of your conversation or whatever. Pshaw, like because the entire world loves to sing, Dave! :P Everyone knows this! (Don't they?)

@Aurora33 you said "I absolutely LOVE Newsies!" if you PM me we can talk about it "cause nobody else I know shares the love of it."

Okay so maybe I don't LOVE the Newsies, but the DVD version IS on my gift-wishlist. And definitely the music/soundtrack is WONDERFUL - I love the music of "Newsies." Actually if you find a musical that I don't like the music - I probably won't like the script, scenes, etc very much either. I may find admiration for the actor/actress how they sing, etc but to me if a play is supposed to be a musical - then the music ought to be grand, fantastic, amazing! (think of "The Lion King" or "The Little Mermaid" and of course, THE Phantom - that! I would love to see in NY) When the music is suburb, it can be easier to 'stomach' the plot, scene action, etc. (Thinking of "Sweeny Todd" - that music is wow H A R D!!! We did this show at our community theater; I've yet to bring myself to watch the Johnny Depp movie version :\ ).

Yup I could write on this/these for a long time! So sure thing :) let us chat! ~ Platy

I really can't understand why you are using 'musical theater' as a synonym for a musical film... I wanted to talk about theatre but I was disappointed. I work in these areas professionally and it is incredibly irritating to confuse it.

@magdalenadominika - I don't know who you are talking to. If you are speaking to me, I'm very sorry. Film industry and Live Theater are SOOO different (as I think anyone who has already posted here would agree).

I'm not sure what you hoped to have happen as a result/reply to your post. These industries/jobs/behind the scenes jobs, etc they are two very different 'characters.'

Again, I'm not sure if you were speaking to me, but I did not mean to insult anyone :( or anyone's job. Sincerely, Platy

I love musicals. Some of my broadway favorites are DEH, BMC, Newsies, Hamilton, the prom, Hadestown, Grease, hairspray, in the heights, avenue q, and many more im forgetting right now. I also like lesser known musicals like 21 chump street and starry. There's also a theatre comany I really like that I highly suggest. They're called Starkid. They make all kinds of musicals. They have comedy musicals like trail to oregon, fan musicals like A Very Potter Musical, Holy musical Batman, and Twisted (Aladdin but from jafars point of view). Their most recent ones are scifi/horror/comedys that take place with reoccuring characters and settings in a series called The Hatchetfield Series. Plus, all their shows are free to watch on youtube. I should mention that especially in the hatchetfield series, there's some potewntially triggering stuff like blood and swearing. But if it sounds interesting, you should totally check it out!!

Ahhh hello fellow Starkid fan!! I love AVPM, I even wrote a critique on it for a drama class in high school. Speaking of Starkid, 3 years ago I met Darren Criss (and Lea Michele) on tour and it was amazing, the “anniversary” of it just happened.
