@Hydrangea03 Hi There,

It sounds like this an an issue that is causing you emotionaly distress! Yes, it can be a coping skill...an unhealthy one! Yet, it can also be part of an anxiety disorer, either Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or Trichotillomania. Your parents may not be educated on the topic so thay may not understand. Also, it sounds like you are doing it when in emotional pain....which can be a form of self mutilation, hurting yourself to distract from the emotional pain. The good news is it can be treated! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will help find the root cause of the issue as well as helping you find ways to manage it. Yes, if it is a serious issue for you nd talk therapy doesn''t help there are medications to help manage it but I always tell people that medication should be used in conjunction with therapy. I can't say for sure what the diagnosis is but I can tell you it is treatable! Look up Tought Stopping techniques to get you started.
