Does Exposure Therapy Work?
Hiya
Sorry I'm not sure if this is the right place or if OCD is even the right classification but basically I work in a bar and I generally have a routine day to day where i fill everything up when it's quiet and clean everything down before and during my shift after using things, I've always seen it as just being efficient to be honest but I have noticed that when somethings not been cleaned or filled I do get anxious and it affects my mood terribly until it'a done.. 🙈
All of the other staff are really laid back about it all and they see it as "when it's completely empty we'll fill it up and when it's the very end of the shift we'll clean it" (and sometimes that doesn't even happen) 🙈
Anyway.. the rest of the staff make fun of me for it, I know it's in a "jokey" way but I can't help but feel like they're genuinely taking the *** aswell... and with it being a few years down the line now it's getting to me a little, I want to not feel the need to do it all, I really want to try and take their approach but I know it's going to bug me and sort of tick away in my head for the first few shifts atleast knowing theres things I haven't done... but I just want to see has anyone tried this approach with something similar and did it help at all or did it just increase their anxiety masively?
Sorry about the long post 🙏
@utteremily
I'm sorry you feel under appreciated.
All you can do is your best 💕there's sadly alot going on and you still have hours left ,💕💜 it doesn't feel like it now but it does get better ,♥️💕
@utteremily I did exposure therapy for a specific phobia and it helped a lot. It did get worse for a little bit, but that was a fairly short time frame and was worth it. I did have a therapist who I spoke to between exposures (not during) and that was helpful as she gave some tips that were very individualized to my situation.
I have a relative who did exposure therapy for OCD. It did help him, but it's still a big struggle for him. He was in an in=patient program for quite a while, but the effects on his life were severe.
Do you have other things in your life where it would cause you anxiety if your routine was disrupted, or is it just this?
