How do I tell my GP about my intrusive thoughts/suspicion of OCD without going into detail?
Hi guys,
So I have a suspicion that I've got OCD but going to get it checked out is absolutely terrifying to me and I don't think I can describe my thoughts just yet, at least to my GP, I'd be happy to disclose it to a OCD professional - and I have a couple places I'm interested in going to for therapy so I'm going to get a referral for that.
However, I don't really want to delve into the thoughts with my GP too much - my intrusive thoughts mainly surround my fear of being/becoming a pedophile, and also incestuous thoughts. I'm pretty scared to bring this up with my GP. How do I just say that I have taboo sexual thoughts and then leave it at that with him?

I understand your distress, just keep it brief and undetailed and explain the need you have to be refered to an ocd specialist!
Hopefully they can help!
It's important to not let these thoughts take over!
Wishing you the best with your appointment!

Hi plumship;
I have OCD also. It might help to know that other people with OCD have similar thoughts. Some women even have a thought that they might harm their baby. What is important is that you realize that these thoughts are not you. They are just intrusive thoughts that are part of the OCD disorder. If you accept them as just a symptom of an illness, then you can take the danger out and it will be easier to let them pass without causing discomfort.
