I’m 17 and OCD is ruining my life. It’s been getting worse and worse, and I genuinely feel like I can’t function normally anymore. I do compulsions all day. Literally every time I touch something or do anything, I have to repeat it over and over until it feels right and It drains me physically, simple tasks take forever. People just call me lazy, especially my mom.I avoid doing things because I dread how long they’ll take because of my ocd ,everything feels overwhelming and exhausting. Even studying is hard , it’s affecting my grades. My mind keeps spiraling, and I constantly have to touch things repeatedly. Even when I try to watch something, I keep replaying parts of the movie/show over and over that sometimes I give up and turn it off. I have this thing where I feel like I can’t do something while having a bad thought, because I’m scared it’ll make that thought come true. The more I try not to think about the thought ,the more it shows up, and I get stuck in a loop trying to think of something good .I think certain numbers are bad luck, so I avoid them completely. It affects my decision making. Everything feels like a sign and a connection ,my mind has a set of rules I need to follow and the rules just keep getting worse and worse , everytime there’s a new rule. feel so stuck. I don’t know how much longer I can deal with this .I really need help, but I can’t ask for it. My parents treat mental illness like it’s craziness, and I’m scared they’ll look at me differently or treat me differentlyI. just want to be normal so bad.

@littleMaple7883

You are normal.

Please know that.

Mental illness is the same as any other physical illness.

We get sick , it's treated.

I'm sorry your parents feel this way and you cannot get help.

It's so exhausting.

You could reach out here to a teen listener and perhaps it might be helpful to strategise different ways to help you cope better in your daily life with OCD.

So you are less exhausted and more settled.

You shouldn't have to suffer alone like this.

Its so brave of you to be able to reach out here and be so honest.

I genuinely wish the best for you 💚

I’m 17 and I feel like this as well. It’s genuinely awful but just remember you are normal and people with OCD are always the strongest 💕

Maybe try explaining to your parents and try to join a therapy program - when I joined CAMHS, (a therapy company for teens) it helped a lot. They also have a plan for when you’re over 18, with a talking therapist.

I hope you feel better soon and that this message was some sort of help ❤️

Hey I have similar issues , I read words in a book several times till my brain feels like it's twisting, I feel like there's noone around that could ever understand such things and I'm glad I have people like you to relate to. My listener name is 'cuddlymango' if you want to talk

For the first time, I feel like I'm not alone in suffering from this illness. You've described my condition perfectly. I'm also 17.
