Fear of history repeating...

Hello!

i have heard that sometimes 'fixing' the hoard can sometimes make the situation more extreme afterwards without psychological support.

i have spent two years clearing out and fixing up my parents home following infestation and within 4 days there was rubbish strewn in front of the back door, at least previously this would make it into a bin.

what can I do? I feel like walking away for good, I am exhausted. :'-(

Hello, Hemlock!

I'm so sorry for your struggles with trying to help out your parents with their hoarding addiction. It sounds very frustrating to go through so much work and effort to help out, only to see it happening again. Especially if it seems like the situation, and addiction is being exacerbated through that help. I can only imagine how terrible it must be and I don't blame you for feeling like you want to escape this situation.

I can't say that I have any experiences with hoarding but I did find this website that may support you further childrenofhoarders.com

I hope someone at 7cups can offer some suggestions or just relate to how you are feeling! If you feel like it would help, you can always enlist the support and help of one of our many listeners here at 7cups if you need someone to vent to. You can also chat in one of our many support rooms with fellow members and listeners all together.

Good luck and take care! heartxx
