Aversion to Food?
So I'm not exactly sure how to classify my issue but I felt like the closest thing I could think of was some type of ocd so I figured I would ask here. Sorry in advance if I've got a skewed idea of ocd and this is all totally wrong. Since I was young, I've despised food crumbs. Totally normal, right? Well for the past few years I've noticed my aversion getting stronger. If someone else has touched food in any way other than to prepare it, I won't eat it. I refuse to have any of my foods touch and if I've used a plate or bowl for one piece of food, I get a different plate for any other piece of food so I don't contaminate them. I always wash my hands after touching any food that has been on a plate/ touched by others (especially condiments). Sometimes when eating with a large amount of people (e.g. A family dinner) I get super anxious and lose my appitite because I have to stare at everyone eating and it makes me naeseated in the worst cases. I'm just wondering if this is a thing that others experience or if there are tips to help me with this because I can't find anything online. Thanks!! <3
@GeekInTheTardis - I'm no professional, so I can't answer whether it's OCD or not, but it sounds to me like it's definitely become more and more of an issue for you and that means it's worth addressing. Have you thought about talking to a professional about what's been going on to get some extra help?
One thing that I find helpful in a lot of situations is to break them down and try to understand when they are best and worst, what the common factors seem to be, etc. to find ways to better avoid them or to manage the stress in the moment to make it easier to get through - do you see any themes in this for you?
