Get it off your chest!
Lately its been everyday. I can barely leave my room without feeling like theyres fleas running up my legs. I have to vaccuum most days or no sleep. If i see a spider then no sleep. I worry there will be more. My skin is scared from scratching at it. I always have to check my bed and wipe it out atleast 10 times. If im not clean im miserable. I can barely pet my cat anymore in fear he might have Fleas. Every night is a battle to relax to sleep. I want to scratch my skin off
Hi @lyvneato, welcome to 7 Cups of Tea! I can definitely empathise with the vacuuming. There's so much more to OCD than the commonly known hand washing. As you can see from this thread, we have people here with all sorts of compulsions, so you're not alone. As for the scratching, that sounds a bit like excoriation disorder (aka dermatillomania). I know having a label doesn't necessarily help, but sometimes it's comforting to think that enough other people are facing similar struggles for it to be formally acknowledged by mental health professionals. I hope you find the support you're after here at 7 Cups of Tea :)
I'm one of those people who plan out everything and keep tabs on everything but my friend she is so unorganized and ruining our plans and doing dumb things (she would leave my locker open, and forget to do something's even if I told her) I don't know what to do cuz it eels me so much especially since I'm a Virgo but I don't want to lose my only friend
My ocd is with cleanliness, mostly washing my hands. It's gotten to a point where it controls my every decision. I can't eat outside my house or go places with my friends because I'm scared there won't be a local bathroom, I try not to eat a school because I'm too scared to explain to my friends why I wash my hands the way I do. It causes arguments with my mum because I'm 'not considerate about how badly my condition effects her'. I feel really ashamed and embarrassed by it because I know my triggers are ridiculous but I can't help it. My mum shouts at me to try and get a grip of it as if I choose to deal with this, as if washing my hands over 100 times a day and showering every night is something I want to do. I can't even stroke my kitten because the fact she's been in a litter tray freaks me out and causes me to need to wash. It's starting to really hurt me, and I feel so guilty because of how it causes me to be around people and how judgemental i come across without meaning to. My mum is insulted by me because her lower standards of hygiene really bother me so I don't like her touching me or hugging me because i just get overwhelmed with this feeling of wrongness and uncomfortability that only goes when I wash. I've tried my hardest to explain I'm sorry and I don't mean to hurt her with it, that it hurts me too that I can't hug my mum but she just gets angry. I'm trying to get professional help for it but for now I don't know what to do.
@bloodyinspired I definitely understand your struggle. I'm sorry that you're going through that, I know how hard it is. I'm going through something similar. I'm here if you ever want to talk about it.
@hiimnobody thank you, I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing something similar, I hope all is okay. I'm here if you need someone too
@bloodyinspired
I am so sorry that you suffer so much 😞
But thank you for speaking up and sharing. I hope you will find a helpful support and counseling team and that your family will be able to understand a bit better.
@Sjr thank you so much, I'm on path to getting therapy with my old psychologist so I hope things will start to improve soon!
My ocd is full of worry, i can stress myself silly over things that arnt even true yet my mind makes me question if they are actually true from the way my thoughts make me feel. I havent had ocd this bad until i fell pregnate. Its driving me insane which is how i came to find this sight over the internet. Ive had ocd most my life but that was just simple things like having to check light switches 3 times to make sure their off, car doors, ovens, locks and things like that. Its good to see a place where i can talk about this
@enthusiasticCamp3328. I know this post was months ago but it might benifet you to search the term intrusive thoughts or pure-o. I have pure-o and it sounds like you do too. Pure-o is a form of ocd where your mind won't stop obsessing over the thoughts you have and they make your thoughts feel threatening when they shouldn't be. And this gives you intense anxiety and it makes you feel insane. I'm not a doctor so this is only a suggestion. I hope you feel better in the future.
@enthusiasticCamp3328
Im glad you're here!!
I have to lock my door everytime I go into my room, no exceptions. And every time I do I have to unlock and relock it 5 times. I have to have groups of 5 in any kind of activity I do, for instance if there is a grid I have to graph, it has to have rows in multiples of five or else I color in the rows until it is in a multiple of 5. I can't draw or write anything or I have to redraw or rewrite it over and over because I'm afraid someone will humilate me for bad handwriting. If food or some kind of liquid gets on my clothing I have to change immediately or wash my hands in multiples of 5, depending on how messy I think it is. I have intrusive images, impulses, and thoughts of harming others and my pets and subsequently avoid things like touching my pets or holding my boyfriend's hand. If I allow myself to touch the animal or such, I end up not being able to control myself and hurting them. My sense of guilt is out of whack too, and every time I do something "bad" I have to tell someone. Every time I have to show three examples of things in my writing or typing I have to order them in alphabetical order (for example, "blue, pink, red") and all my books have to be in alphabetical order. Sometimes I go on cleaning sprees and clean absolutely everything and rearrange my whole room, including furniture. I have to tap or touch certain things to try to calm down when I'm anxious, though that doesn't always work. I have to be excessively reassured that I haven't accidentally harmed someone.
@closeddoor
Also I have to fill in empty space, so on tests and homework I shade in all the enclosed letters. There's more but I don't remember all of them.
I'm a checker. I hate it! I'm actually at work right now and I have to check my work like a bunch of times. This takes up precious time and it makes me look bad:( I'm also obsessed with disinfecting things. I'm afraid that if I don't check/disinfect something bad will happen for being lazy and not taking the time to check.
My OCD comes in the form of Trichotillomania. I can't help myself from pulling out hair from all over my body. It's terribly time-consuming and emotionally draining. I wish I could just stop myself, but I can't, I just can't. Does anyone here also suffer from Trich?
@holdonhope I do! I've been dealing with it for 9 years now. I pull my hair from underneath, so my hair there is incredibly dry and the split ends are horrific. It's hard because I can pull my hair both consciously and unconsciously. My family and close friends are aware of it so they tell me to stop when I'm doing it in case I'm not aware. However sometimes I do it when I'm anxious (which is a lot) on purpose, because the feeling and the sound are just the greatest things. I'm not sure how similar ours are, but know you're not alone!
@holdonhope the hair on my head for me, to clarify, sorry!
I always seem to make up little rules in my head just to make my life harder. I always worry that something will happen if I dont. I always stress about the way I write my letters and erase and rewirite them multiple times sometimes just because I link the way I write the letter or word inapropriate even though I'm the only one that interprets it that way. I haven't turned in some school work because of it and have come out of class after class shaking because of stressing over how I wrote my letters. Sometimes if I run into something wit an arm for example, I have to either pinch the other arm or run into the thing with it in the exact same spot at the other. I can't STAND being poked, touched lightly, brushed up against etc. I have to pinch the area that got brushed up against for it to stop bothering me. I do some things in number patterned. Normally I start with 3, and if I accidentally miss 3 I start with an odd number. After the odd number I fall into a pattern of twos and if I miss two I do the compiltion in an even number and then back into twos. I always feel like I have to incorporate every accurate detail when I talk about some things and get anxious when I dont. There are more symptoms too.
I made so many typos. Sorry.
I triple check everything and annoy my kids because I don't remember asking the same question more than once. I feel overwhelmed and stressed at home because on one hand I could use help with household chores but I can not allow them to help due to my standards. The laundry has to be folded a certain way, I can't just wipe up bread crumbs by the toaster I am compelled to clear and clean every surface.
My children are 15 and 13 and there room has to be picture perfect. I even organize their drawers and closets. Everything has to be in the proper groups and hung by length then color. I vacuum or mop our hard wood floors more than once a day. I want so badly to entertain friends or host holidays in our home but immediately feel regret than anxiety over them dirtying the house. So I never enjoy myself because I observe every movement so I can clean after them. Now I just make excuses so they don't visit. Everything has a place and purpose if not its donated or trashed.
I can not stand clutter or to many items on a counter/table or shelve. This has caused issues with my family because I've discarded things they had an attachment to. If I need to leave the house I get in my car lock it and start it then open the garage door because I am afraid there is someone waiting to come in and harm me. Light switches that are not all facing the same way will have me spend what feels like forever trying to correct them.
@Irishbreen
I am so sorry that you struggle so much. 😕
@Irishbreen I know it's incredibly difficult, trust me. Keep holding on and staying strong!
OCD has completely rearranged my sense of self and I no longer know who I am without it, and I'm pretty much nobody without it.
