Looking for some help dealing with my anxiety
Hello I have been having a lot of issues the last couple months with my OCD and having intrusive thoughts and once I get something in my mind focousing on it and not being able to stop thinking about it as well as like if I did or something or said something that was rude or that I shouldnt have done focousing on it and what other people might have thought of it for days if not weeks on end and not bing able to stop. I tried using the tools that I got from a therapist years ago so I started seeing a counseled a couple weeks ago and she isnt really helping me learning to deal with it or giving me tools on dealing with it but she did help me realize that I am always anxious and making me feel like I never get a break from the anxiety as well as suggesting that she thinks I may have depression. I would like to see an actual therapist but Im afraid to afford it. Does anyone have any suggestions or tools that they have found that has worked for them and their anxiety other than this app?
Thank You
@dynamicSailboat1947 I have not been in your shoes, but some tools I've used is engaging in mindfulness and meditation. There's a site/app called Calm (Google should bring it up for you) that has free meditations. I pay for a subscription and personally find it useful but not everyone might.
I also find self-care super important: making sure the "basics" (food, hydration, sleep) are always important to maintain and adjusting them as necessary (is my water intake not so great? Buying a water bottle was helpful). I also exercise as part of my daily routine.
So in related to the above I'll "check in" with myself. Was it hot today and do I need more water? Did I exhert myself a little more and might be a little hungry? Am I feeling a little more stressed out than normal and maybe should put in a harder routine to "work it out"? Hope this helps!
@ReadBooksDrinkTea thanks for the advice. I always make sure Im takeing care if myself physically its just mentally that I have problems with. Ive tried meditation before but its just not something I was ever able to get into it and the counselor i was seeing was saying she was going to help me with the mindfullness but all she ever actually did was give me a sheet talking about the different types of thoughts but she never actually gave me any tools In how to deal with those thoughts so it didnt help.
