I'm currently pregnant. and today, I just realized I'm not really ready to be a mother. Am I bad thinking like this? Is it normal during pregnancy? It is my first baby. and I'm sad that I have thoughts like this.

I've never had the experience of expecting a child yet and I'm far off from reaching that point but from what I hear from all my friends and my mom's friends who were pregnant with their first in the past was the incredible amount of anxiety that they had worrying about if they were going to be good parents or not. It's a big step in life and it's a big responsibility to be finally be looking out for a life that's not our own. Will we ever be ready? Probably not. There definitely will be moments of mishaps and struggles along the way. However, if done right it can teach you a lot about yourself and learn about things you never knew. It's a journey not a fantasy. Best of luck and hope this helped a bit.

Yes. Strive to be the best you can be for your child. They will be grateful for you just being there for them through life. I’m 24 and still want my mom. I cry for my mom when I get hurt, call when I’m scared and the first person I want to tell good news. Every child needs there mother for love, care, and support. I know you can do that. You will be amazing at being a mother.

@noname0098 I totally understand. I had many similar feelings. I was often completely terrified with the thought of motherhood, when I was pregnant. There were no adverse conditions at the time I was pregnant either, everything was fine. It was my past experiences haunting me, and I was afraid that I would fail as a Mother...I think?

There is a lot of responsibility that comes with being a Mother! Anytime we step into a new role with a lot of responsibility it can feel VERY scary! I must say I turned out to be a totally awesome Mom! I had to learn a lot to be the Mom my kid needed. I tried to take a lot of parenting classes before I gave birth because I was afraid I didn't know how to be a Mom! And you know what??!! Most of what I learned didn't work with my kid!

I had to learn completely new things to help my kid after they were born. However, I did it and we overcame A LOT! My kid would not be where they are if it weren't for me. I had to learn to be the Mom my kid needed, NOT the Mom I thought I should be or like other Moms. I do fail a lot as a Mom too, but those failures are in the things that really won't matter in 20 years. So a good Mom is not a perfect Mom! ❤️😍

Hi there, I think it's pretty normal to have thoughts about "am I good enough to do this?" But if you're willing to be there for that baby, love it, care for it, nurture it, and try to be the best mama you can be, you're going to be a great mom.

I have 2 older teens, and I wasn't really even sure I wanted to be a mom at all until I was well into my first pregnancy, and then suddenly some bizarre protective maternal "mama bear" hormones kicked in.

I will say this from my experience:

Parenting is not easy. Parenting will challenge you in ways you can't imagine. But parenting is also so full of amazing rewards. Be awake for the experience. You will learn something every day and you will experience love like you've never thought possible.

Sleep? Eh, who needs it??? Just kidding. Sleep is essential. All babies are different. Mine only slept when he was right next to me. I valued my sleep above all else, so baby slept next to me. We both slept well (hubby wasn't excited about this, but honestly, sleep was more important to me than what hubby wanted in that moment).

As another already mentioned, parenting is definitely a journey. Seek support when you need it. The thing that was absolutely the most helpful for me, was having a small peer group of friends with babies the same age. We met once a week, every week, and it was the best support group ever (without actually being an official support group). Everyone had questions, we were all new parents, and it was SO REASSURING to know that we were all going through the same stuff, and all had the same questions. Find some others to connect with. Parenting can feel very lonely sometimes, and it really helps to have some peers in a similar stage as you.

Otherwise, good luck, enjoy the journey, and consider it one giant epic learning opportunity to enrich your life.

I don't know for sure if you will be a good mother... but what I do know is that by reading your post, you are already thinking of your baby!
& guess what??? That's what good moms do!

Congratulations on being an expecting mother. Being a mother is the most rewarding job. It has its ups and downs but babies change everything. Remember: there is no handbook on how to be a good parent and I don't think anyone is fully ever ready. It's just one of those things you learn as you go. And as you are a parent to your baby, you will be learning about yourself. Pregnancy can be a beautiful time for many women so I hope you enjoy it. ♡

Wishing you happiness and a safe, healthy pregnancy. PS: Your baby will be the luckiest baby on the Earth because of he/she will have YOU. ♡ Take care.

It's pretty normal to experience anxiety during pregnancy. Just know that you'll never be a perfect mother. Do your best and start fresh every day. If it gets worse or you start thinking about death, talk to your doctor. You could be experiencing postpartum or antepartum depression. No mother should be expected to go through that alone, and your doctor can help.

Thanks for reaching out! You are an amazing person and I'm sure you'll be an amazing person. Feel free to message me if you want to chat! I'll reply in under 24 hours.
