@Torean Yeah… mysterious strangers is a pretty fitting description for us. It’s like those people you keep seeing at your favourite coffee shop.... you pass by, maybe exchange a few words about the weather or the rush hour but still know absolutely nothing about them. Anyway....I really love your poems. What got you into poetry? (For me it started with childhood trauma and, well, I happened to have a pencil back then)
Also what is the story behind your username? *only if you are willing to share *

Torean October 10th, 2025

Heheh, pretty much. And thank you! 😊 It was gradual for me. Ultimately it started with trauma from when I was 14 or so, but I also happened to start getting into creative classes after that. At first it was mostly fun, but I felt like my words had more unintended depth than was immediately apparent to me. I started exploring that in darker states of mind, and that's pretty much the origin. As for my username? It's supposed to be T'orean. It's a name passed down from my dad's side, it's supposed to be a Cherokee way of saying "strong like an oak tree". Its not my actual name, but I was named after my grandpa, and he was known as both names. (I uh .. don't really like my grandpa though, I just like the name)

Also, is there a story behind "azure pond"?

User Profile: azurePond
azurePond October 19th, 2025

@Torean

First of all apologies, Torean. Sometimes you might see me post on forums but not actually reply to anyone and other times I just disappear completely.... please dont take it personally. It takes a while for my mind to quiet down before I can reply properly.

I see…
That makes a lot of sense. Creativity often starts as an outlet and slowly becomes a mirror and most times it ends up  showing us things we never meant to express in the first place.  It’s brave of you to lean into that instead of turning away ... most people dont. Most people write about whats happening around them but rarely look inward. I know because I used to be one of them... I was scared of my own emotions or rather what was behind them. Lately though  Ive become a bit braver about facing myself.

Thats actually a really powerful name. And it’s fair to love your name but not the person who gave it to you. Also  and I hope this isnt callously intrusive— are you Cherokee? I know a bit about them, though honestly not much beyond the general overview you get in world history classes.

My username isnt nearly as cool. When I first joined 7 Cups.. it gave me a system generated name like “Azure Trees” or something. Since I dont know of any blue trees, I thought “Azure Pond” sounded better...  kind of a small tribute to the pond at my grandparents’ house (my dad’s parents, who raised me). Also because, ironically, I’m afraid of water...  ponds, pools, lakes, swimming, all of it. So it felt a bit like Batman naming himself batman.

No worries, I think it's good to take your time. I probably reply a little too often and exhaust myself sometimes. 😅

I guess that's kinda true about people rarely looking inward with it. Maybe that's why I have so much trouble writing or painting things that are just pretty or happy. There's always something more inside that seems to prevent it. Anyway, you've seemed really brave for a while, whether or not you're still trying to go further in facing yourself. You have the air of someone who's been doing that for a very long time though, so maybe you've done better than you think!

Heh, thanks. That's not intrusive either... Both of my parents were 1/4 Cherokee, so I am too, but I grew up with zero Cherokee culture. It came from both of my grandpa's, but one passed away before I was old enough to remember him, and the other wasn't involved with the family and wasn't a particularly respectable person in general. Anyway, I know a bit about the culture, I just never got to really experience it. I'm also 1/4 Polish, and that came from my grandma. I did get to grow up with a bit of that culture, but its mostly discreet stuff that I didn't even realize was cultural until adulthood. Like, everyone being expected to drink at gatherings, having heated arguments without it getting personal... Stuff like that. A bit of the food too ( I... Actually don't really like Polish food though).

Heh, I think that's a pretty cool story for taking a name based on the system generated ones. So that was a pond that you liked? And what makes you afraid of water and swimming? I love swimming, but I was afraid of it as a kid, and it was a pretty rough experience that got me over it.

@Torean Yes its good to take some time out because the exhausted version of me is also the angry version of me. So a break isnt just self preservation... its about preserving my relationships too 😅I usually try to let people know beforehand though because I dont want them thinking I just disappear mid conversation.

“I probably reply a little too often and wear myself out sometimes. 😅” -  please don’t burn yourself out... though I respect the effort it takes.

Ooh I get that too. I tend to write sad poems and draw gloomy things and whenever I try to write about love or happiness... it feels forced and a bit superficial. Ive noticed that sadness and maybe angerthat  runs through your poetry as well. I really liked the vampire poem... it had that raw edge of anger but I also related to the part about the d.ull child who never quite measured up (sorry I’m awful with titles but I remember how it made me feel) I also vaguely remember another poem of yours about faith... it carried so much anger and sarcasm and I remember thinking that it takes immense courage to call out hypocrisy that way.

Maybe when our insides finally find peace ... truly find contentment..  we’ll end up writing about butterflies dancing under blue skies. * Cheers to that, with mango juice in hand!*

Thank you for saying that. I do try. Self awareness is something Im working on and hypocrisy is something I never want to be associated with. Tbh I grew up in a bit of a bubble called my family. Even though I read a lot and kept up with the news... I was sometimes quite out of touch with people. For a long time Ive been trying to break free from that...  to look inward and to see others in a different light. It’s a long road… and I’m still walking it.

Oh I see...  I can relate. Id rather not say which country Im from but I also come from mixed cultures. And I grew up in another country that’s completely different from both my mother's and dad’s sides. Well not exactly grew up but I studied there and spent a significant part of my life there so I relate more to that culture than either of my parents’ I do know a bit about my dad’s culture though because I spent my summers with my grandparents and they did most of the raising. Physically, I resemble my mother's side more and Im a citizen of her country but I do not relate to the culture nor the language. So I suppose Im somewhere between worlds.

You got to experience Polish culture at least a bit right? Have you ever been to Poland?
I’ve never tried Polish food so I’ll take your word for it. But do you have dumplings in Poland? *ignore if this is a dumb question*  because my brother once went through a dumpling phase and made me “Polish dumplings”. I dont actually remember what they tasted like... It couldve been his invention. He’s known to trick me into eating things by marketing them as "cultural food or foreign food".

I didnt like that pond much either but during summer, my siblings and friends used to play around it, so I have fond memories of those days.

You love swimming now...  how did you get past your childhood fear?

TW _ Mentions drowning and death

Well... I nearly drowned when I was a kid. It was quite serious.  I was rescued but afterwards I got pneumonia and my lungs have been weak ever since. If I catch a cold or a fever, it tends to hit me quite hard. I went through therapy later on but I never really went back to water. I could manage being near pools or dipping my feet in water but that was about it. Then during my teenage years, my childhood friend — and first boyfriend — drowned. So, there’s PTSD tied up with all of that. Now I just stay away from water. I can't even picture myself entering a bath tub.

END of TW content

I dont mind watching others swim ... I used to but I can handle it now. One of my brothers is absolutely obsessed with diving and ocean exploration... he sometimes sends me videos of him petting sharks and being surrounded by schools of fish. Im fine watching them but I wont be getting in the water any time soon. I do love walking along the beach though. Just not boating, swimming or cruising... that’s off the list for me.

What are your hobbies? Do you like watching movies?

For sure, I'm being more careful not to wear myself out with replies. And no worries about your breaks, that makes sense, you're welcome back whenever you're back.

Heh, I couldn't have said it better... I've written only a few that kinda feel really happy. Love is a different story... A lot of my poems are about love, but not obviously, because there's more going on in them besides that aspect. I'm glad you could relate to mine, and that you remember that other one. Lol, calling out hypocrisy in my poems is what I do... But it definitely took courage to post it here. Actually, that version was edited and maybe a little watered down. The original version has a bit more harsh language to it. 😅 I'm glad you liked it though, I did my best to keep true to it while making it cups-friendly. I'd love to see some of your work that you're proud of too.

Heheh, right? I want to write more beautiful things, but I have to be patient. Its like you said, I gotta be careful not to let it become forced or superficial.

I lived in a bit of a bubble too... Mostly I had to kinda get out and experience things because once I abruptly went from extremely sheltered to free as a teen, it still took me a while to figure out that I could branch out and actually find my own identity. It's still ongoing for me too and I'm a super late bloomer... I think I've grown more in the past 5 years than my entire life before then.

I understand not wanting to mention the countries, but that sounds really interesting. Like, I would've loved to see different places on top of experiencing different cultures. I've never been to Poland or anywhere besides the US as of yet. I know my grandma used to travel every year to Poland, Spain, or Italy... I never got to go though. She also used to live in Germany and Canada, since she was married to an air force pilot.

I think he probably had you try pierogi. They're dumplings that are usually fried and filled mostly with potato, cheese, and spices, occasionally meat. I actually do like those. Cabbage rolls aren't bad either. I'm not sure if they're Polish or not, but my grandma used to make these mincemeat cookies that were super good.

Anyway, overall, I think I was between cultures in a different way. Mostly that my grandma was upper middle class (with a big pool, that's about to become relevant in the next paragraph) and the rest of my family was lower class... My immediate household was maybe closer to middle class, but I didn't get to be home much outside of weekends because of how much my parents worked. But on the other hand, I had a friend two houses down that was middle Eastern... I also had two friends from Africa within walking distance (I actually pretty much just got home from a trip with them - we still hang out fairly often.). So, I'm a little used to some aspects of those cultures too.

So, I'm sorry to hear about the experiences with drowning... That's really messed up that you lost someone and it was so bad to have lasting effects from yours. You don't have to talk about it, but I'm curious about your drowning experience. I'd understand if you want to leave that alone. Also, I wouldn't be upset if you want to skip this, but here's a TW for when I almost drowned in my grandma's pool.

I was 4, about to turn 5, and I was learning to swim, but I mostly stuck to the edges and still had floaties. My cousin is a little older, and she wouldn't stop making fun of me for wearing floaties. Anyway, a little later that day, after swimming, it started to storm hard, and everyone had gone in for a late lunch. (Having absurdly late lunches also tends to happen in Polish culture apparently, lol) But I went back outside, and I just remember staring at the water in the heavy rain, and I was so mad that I jumped into the pool without floaties. I was out in the middle, and the rain was causing waves, and I was immediately struggling to stay above the water .. I could see inside, and it looked so warm and yellow at the table, all my family was smiling, and no one had any idea that I was out there. I remember I kept going under, and I was going to black out, but survival instinct kicked in, and I found myself clumsily swimming to the edge and pulling myself out, gasping for breath. The main difference is that my situation wasn't bad enough that I ended up with lasting damage, and I started loving swimming afterward. I guess I'm even glad that I went through it... That was definitely scary for a little kid though. Anyway, that's the end of my TW.

Thats really cool about your brother's hobby. I don't think I'd pet a shark, but it sounds fun. As for my hobbies? My main ones are video games, writing, and Kendo. For video games, I like RPG's and survival horror best, but really all kinds. You've seen some of my writing, and I do stories too... I have maybe 6 novels in the works, and I work on one at a time until I end up at a block and switching to something else. Kendo, for anyone who doesn't know, is basically Japanese fencing - I used to go to a dojo for that. Other than that, I do love reading, music, and movies as well. I'm crazy about horror movies (even bad ones) but I like most other kinds too. Otherwise, I also like basketball, swimming, painting, comics, and hanging out with people. What about you?

@Torean Ok thats good.

I respect that. Poets were always revolutionaries, werent they? I like the social commentary in your poem, Torean, you manage to do it without sounding preachy.

As for works Im proud of… well... the thing is,... when I first write my poems I feel proud of them but when I revisit them later...  I end up cringing a bit. Im not embarrassed exactly, but I do feel somewhat detached from those emotions. When the current version of me reads them I dont always relate anymore  or I catch myself wondering “what was the point of this anyway?” I also sometimes feel like I was seeking attention (which I know is just a self deprecating thought Im trying to shake off)

Anyway although I m proud of writing poetry... Im not always proud of my poems. But if youre curious, I post them on my profile...  feel free to have a look. Some are very dramatic, some might be a bit uncomfortable. My 7cups profile is basically a stream of consciousness space.

I do hope we both get to write about happy things one day without feeling like imposters.

Growing up sheltered to living freely as a teen can go either way but Im glad youre using that freedom for growth and self development. How was your sheltered life though? Were your parents strict?

I get that. I think Ive grown more in the past 3 years than I ever did before...  Im a much later bloomer than you.. but better late than never, right? haha.

And yes I completely agree... experiencing different countries and people changes you. My upbringing and interaction with people from various backgrounds definitely shaped me. It makes you see people as individuals... beyond stereotypes. You see them loving their culture yet sharing your taste in books or hobbies and that removes the sense of “otherness”.

When you hear “Australia”, for eg. its no longer just a far off land with faceless people. Its also the home of your friend who loves cricket and insists its better than football. So now youve got a personal grudge against all Australians (just joking!). But yk what I mean... it humanises a country. It’s quite enlightening.

I hope you get the chance to travel it really is the best way to learn not just about others but about yourself too.

Your grandma sounds like she had an incredible yet difficult life. Being a military spouse isnt for the faint hearted.  *Salute to her - my respect* . One of my close friends is a military brat and she absolutely hates the lifestyle...  both her parents serve. We actually bonded over the shared trauma of parents who were constantly travelling. Your grandmother was a warrior for standing by her husband through it all.

Oh yes it was pierogi...  I texted him and asked. It had potato and meat. I havent tried cabbage rolls yet (I love cabbage so I really should try them when I can). Ive never had mince meat cookies either  though Ive had mince pies before.

You seem close with your grandma...  you speak of her fondly.

That mix of classes and cultures you mentioned sounds fascinating.  it must have given you a layered perspective on belonging and people in general. The contrast between your grandmas big pool and the rest of your family’s life probably made you notice things others overlook. And it’s lovely that youve kept in touch with your childhood friends ...  that sort of continuity says a lot about your ability to connect across backgrounds.

My drowning experience is a bit of a sensitive topic in my family -  it actually led to my parents’ divorce. Id rather not share too many details since it’s public record somewhere but essentially I fell into the water while my mother was supposed to be watching me and she didnt hear me. I could have died but luckily some people nearby saw me and pulled me out. The hypothermia got quite bad and I ended up with pneumonia too.

Oh my gosh !!!  thank goodness for your survival instinct or perhaps the adrenaline! I’m so relieved you found the strength to swim ( I know you are here and you write about a past experience) and honestly.. I am  proud that you didnt let such a terrifying experience turn into a lifelong fear. Youre a strong person mentally.

Yeah ’m the same...   definitely not petting a shark! My siblings and I all have slightly self destructive tendencies though...  its like we run towards danger instead of away from it. Speaking of which... do you have siblings? Are you close to them or are you an only child?

You know kendo? That’s so COOL!!. Do you have a bamboo sword? Is kendo helpful for self defence... like can you fight off  your enemies? How did you get into it...  what inspired you?

Im not too familiar with video games tbh so I’ll take your word for it. The only ones I know are GTA (it was huge when I was in school and I watched people play), Assassin’s creed (because my friends were obsessed), The last of us (thanks to the show), League of legends (because of Arcane and also an e gamer friend) and Resident evil (Ive played it  but Im no expert).

I completely get your love for survival horror... they often have the best philosophical or emotional storylines. ( I am not so good at the gaming aspects so I cant comment on it )

You write stories too? Do you have a favourite genre? Wow 6 novels !!!! * bows in respect* I admire the dedication. If youre ok sharing.. what are your novels about? Maybe not the whole plot but the general genre and tone youre going for.

Are you a professional writer or is writing more of a personal pursuit for you?

As for my hobbies...  I love writing (mostly poetry though Ive started exploring short stories lately), reading (pretty much anything that catches my interest), and films (I’ll watch anything ... any language, any genre, as long as it draws me in). I also love tennis -  it’s my go-to sport and really helps with anger management.

Im into music, deep conversations with friends and crafts like origami and bottle art. I cant remember everything off the top of my head but I also enjoy watching football. And I have this funny hobby of partaking in everyone else’s hobbies..  like  I have a friend who loves trekking so I go along sometimes for bonding and that is also how I have experience playing video games I have mentioned earlier. My siblings often rope me into random activities too...  once I joined a pottery class and ended up making a lumpy little thing that looked like a pot that gave up under pressure.

Oh and I love running- morning runs clear my head and help me feel ready for the day. I cycle too.. though its more a means of transport than a hobby.

That is kinda true. And thank you! 😊 I feel like I usually replace preachy with sassy.. hopefully it works as much as it seems to.

I get that way with some of my poems. Try not to be too hard on them, but I know how hard it can be to shake those thoughts. I definitely feel that way about most of what I wrote from 2005-2010 though.

I'll have to take a look at what you have posted on your profile, and I'll letcha know what I think!

My parents were kind of strict? I dunno, I had access to certain stuff but not other stuff. I was basically blind to pop culture and anything remotely inappropriate. First of all, there's the depressingness of my parents on the subject of music. My mom basically didn't listen to much of anything, and my dad would either listen to Skynyrd or oldies. Maybe some ZZ Top if he was feeling fancy. So, I was a super late bloomer with music, but I came out of the gate with good taste. I really liked RHCP, Linkin Park, and Audioslave... It grew and grew from there. So, definitely better late than never. Otherwise, one example of strict... I remember coming home from school one day... And I see my dad eating ice cream right out of the container and watching South Park. He looked so mad, and he was basically yelling that he'd been watching it for 3 hours and just couldn't find anything funny about it. Lol... So, I didn't get to watch that one after that...

That's true. It's easy to learn to see differences as something fun to learn or experience when you really get to know people from other cultures. Like, I was on a trip with a few of my friends and their family (all the same family) the past few days. They're black, and even being the white odd one out, there's nothing weird about it. In fact, I kinda feel like part of their family, because they treat me as such. I don't have to try hard around them, and they don't feel uncomfy either. One of them that I hadn't met before is actually from Africa and we hit it off really well. We were drinking hard cider at the arcade, and got to learn lots about each other. That was a lot of fun.

Heh, I think my grandma thrived with all the travel and all that it came with... My mom hated moving around as a kid though, and that's understandable. As for my grandma, I was close to her as an adult, not a kid. She's strict to kids and kinda trivializes anything kids complain about. It wasn't any different for me. I'd get pinched for so much as touching the walls, and if I was whining about something, she'd respond in show tune lyrics or some stupid saying or something. As an adult though, I found out that we have a lot in common. We think a lot the same (even though I'm always really nice and honest to children).

Heh, pierogi's are pretty alright. They're great mixed with sausage and broccoli.

Thank you... You're probably right about the continuity. I still have a main group of friends from the time we were in Kindergarten to middle school. We never stopped hanging out. 😂

Oh man... I'm really glad you made it... That sounds almost double traumatic for the divorce stuff to happen on top of it. As for mine... Heh, I seem to have a habit of near-death experiences. 😅 Not inviting more by petting a shark for sure... But definitely into running towards danger sometimes.

Bwahaha, thanks 😁 yes, I took a year or so of Kendo, and I do have a bamboo sword. As soon as I knew there was a class, I was all in. Like, I have a history of collecting and practicing with swords... I know how to use a lot of kinds pretty well... That comes from wanting to off someone with them during an awkward dark part of my life. But kendo is super healthy... Hmm, to answer the self defense question... I think Kung Fu that I took as a kid was way better for reflexes and self-defense. Kendo is better for general mental health and capability. I feel like I grew a lot more as a person with it. Both are excellent exercise though.

Heh, I love GTA, Assassin's Creed, and Resident Evil. Some of my favorite series right there. They all have really good strong points and things to offer.

Oh lawd, yeah, 6 unfinished novels and 1 finished. Let's see... The tone and genre varies.

  1. The Null in the Void - It's about humanoid rabbit mages on the moon, and one of them gets possessed by the void of space itself on a trip somewhere far off from the solar system. Its unfinished, and I'm probably not going to finish this one. Fantasy/sci fi

  2. Wendel - Finished!... But it's a mess, and it's basically about a nexus point between worlds where characters from different worlds meet and face an irresponsible God who's held in check by a snarky wizard. Fantasy-ish genre

  3. Wendel, but good - attempting a rewrite and reimagining of the story. Its going well, but it's shaping up to be way longer.

  4. Wendel 2 - A World Uncalculated - yeah, I started a sequel a long time ago, and I have some great ideas, but I don't know what the point is yet.

  5. Fog of War - it's about a curse left behind in a nation after a war. Its this fog that travels around, and some deeper dog stays in certain places. The fog is full of monsters, and the story revolves around mercenaries going in to clear the fog zones. Unfinished, and unsure if I'll get through it. Kinda sci fi, kinda mixed.

  6. Untitled Casino Story - Despite not having a title, I've put a massive amount of work into this one. It's about a casino that's basically both haunted and a gateway to the demon world. Horror/Psychological genre.

  7. Garden of Eaten - A story about a town in the middle of nowhere that Eevee and her cousin get dragged to. There's an entity that's going around k!lling people and animals and leaving coins on the dead... And also an alternate world inspired by the garden of Eden and other strange symbolic places. This one is horror/psychological, with lots of scathing commentary of society indirectly woven in. This one's my main project for now. Anyway, all the writing is a hobby, but who knows where it could land me.

You've definitely got some cool hobbies too. Tennis is hard for me, and so is origami and pottery. I'll have to try bottle art at some point, that sounds fun. Lol, I try hobbies of others too... I try running too every now and then. Sometimes it seems to really resonate and help me, sometimes it just over exhausts me.

@jesusredeemedme2425

I'm alive! I've been on here pretty much all day, catching up. It's been grand.

Huh, I guess I not only have to complete the book now, but make it good, and attach a price. Otherwise, no mansions!

Almost every day, I write. The dream of giving such a gift will serve as motivation. I've always wanted to be that kind of guy.
