I've got good news. All five of my students have been hired! Four of them will start May 11th, with the 5th one to start in July, as she will have surgery and needs time to recover. Which also means, we need to plan to have a get-together very soon, before they start their Orientation, which doesn't leave us many days left, since I'm only available Mon, Tues, and Wed.

I am glad that your students were hired. I am sure that you did a great job in teaching them. My semester will end in another week or so.

But I also have rougher news to share. My mother died a week ago Wednesday. It is good that she is no longer in horrific pain, but it sad to know she is gone. I am okay, but definitely on an emotional roller coaster. There are so many details to organize that I am having nightmares. My back is also heavily affected by all the driving and the sciatica is running down my leg and causing lots of pain. My father is also not doing particularly well and losing him close to Mom would be even tougher. I know that there will be another side to all of this, but it is tough.  @Jaeteuk

Oh my goodness.. Sorry to hear you've lost your mum a week ago, but it good to know that she's no longer suffering and is in a better place. Losing both parents would be devastating, it would really hit you and may sink to the bottom, along with all your own physical health pains..

Take good care of yourself~

Thanks, I am trying. The back pain makes things much harder. But I try to keep moving forward.  I am very tired. @Jaeteuk

I had a biopsy taken out of my upper palette this morning, thinking it would be like a small cut, but I think my dentist removed the entire piece of lesion. It's like near the back of my throat, so for the few days, can only eat soft, cold, food/beverage. At first, my mum said it's a small procedure, that in the past, with hers, they just used a small needle to remove parts of her palette to send for biopsy. But for me, it was a bigger area, and it bled and soaked two cotton balls. They applied some silver nitrate to stop the bleeding. I originally planned to have breakfast with my parents afterwards, because I believed my mum about the small procedure. But I ended up watching them eat at a restaurant this morning for breakfast, I only ordered a cold drink as the numbing was going away, and once we got home, my mum blended some greek yogurt, a banana, some whey, and coconut water for my breakfast. I went to take a nap afterwards, as I took a Tylenol for the pain. Just woke up 30 minutes ago, and ate half of a sweet potato. My parents bought some potato salad from Costco, as it's cold and soft. But I'm not sure if I can eat it.. as it still requires chewing. Because whatever I swallow, water or food, it passes by that spot. So, there's discomfort. Even swallowing saliva bothers me.

I'll see how I am by Wednesday, if I'm still unable to eat normal food, I might need to call in sick for Thursday, as I'll need to eat real food if I'm working a regular shift, otherwise, not enough energy to work.

By the way, my dad had a fall Saturday morning, when he and mum went for a walk around a track and field park. Dad was distracted and flinched when he saw two people playing catch and the ball was being hit in their direction. He lost his balance and landed on is left side. Using the palm of his hand to break the fall. His left arm is bruised, left shin is scratched, one of his fingers is cut. Now, his left hand, from wrist to finger tips, it's swollen to twice the size. Mum took him to the emergency a couple of hours after the fall, as that was when the swelling appeared. Had an x-ray done, no broken bones, just said the swelling was due to impact and bruising. Was just told to ice it and take Tylenol and Advil if it hurts.

Mum didn't tell me until I got home from work on Saturday, from what dad said, he didn't want to tell me at all, but mum was like, I would able to see the swelling and ask about it anyways. They just said to not tell my brother yet, as he's on a business trip and will return tomorrow.

Hope you can find some sort of relief soon~

I have one good news, got an email from the college yesterday morning, to confirm my next group of students for the Fall semester. Will be from October 5th - December 22nd.

I'm also to arrange a date to meet with the Program Coordinator, as I want to get a bit more guidance for if I encounter the same kind of student I had, whom I ended up failing. She was away for a family emergency in the last month of my Clinical classes, so, I'll arrange to meet her after my oral cavity is healed. Because when swallowing saliva is uncomfortable, I don't want to be talking a whole lot.

Having a student that you need to fail or need to shake up a bit is very, very common. It says nothing about you as an instructor. But it can be very hard to believe that. I had a student this past semester who was very childish, constantly complaining about the workload and leading other students down a similar path. I suddenly realized last week that ALL of her other instructors were reporting similar encounters with this student. We all felt guilty and horrible about our teaching and some of us have over 20 years experience doing this. Always remember that it is you AND the student who make up the education team. When one half fails to meet the bar and you have tried, it is not your fault. @Jaeteuk

My dentist called me today with the biopsy results. It was a benign oral fibroma polyp. She mentioned that it's rare, but some may regrow. So, she will keep an eye on the area in each dental visit. The wound has healed over, it almost looks unnoticeable. Once it's all good, I can make plans to grab a bite with the person I had postponed our plans with. I can also arrange to meet with past colleagues for lunch soon too.

I finally got my snow tires changed out this morning, we bought a set of new tires (as mine are 10 years old) from Costco, as it's found out that having them change tires is cheapest compared to other auto shops. Tomorrow, I plan to make an appt to get my brakes changed as well. I wanted to wait until I got my new seasonal tires back on first before I get new brakes.

User Profile: bestVase7265
bestVase7265 May 22nd

Glad to hear that it was a polyp. That in general is good news. It is what I get in my uterus and what I had the biopsy surgery for back in January.

The tires and brakes also sound good.

I finally finished the school year from *** tonight. I found three more AI essays this evening which somehow seems appropriate. Now I can start planning for a better school year next year I pray. I will start doing the readings tomorrow.

I will also go see the physical therapist for the first time tomorrow. It is starting to look like a herniated disk. I just want to get it better by my mom's memorial service on June 20th. I have such trouble sitting down and car rides are pure torture. We do another long drive on Saturday to do more work on her house. I won't really get a summer this year between the cleaning and the memorial service. @Jaeteuk

User Profile: Jaeteuk
Jaeteuk OP May 24th

I hope the herniated disk won't require surgery! Maybe just need to wear a brace or rest. You still have about a month until your mom's memorial service. Try and rest more, especially having to finish the school year.

I'm busy on my days off, starting from tomorrow. Going to meet the Program Coordinator at the College to talk about that student I failed.. I wanted more guidance and support, if I were to be put in a similar situation in my future cohorts. This time, she was off for more than a month with a family emergency, so she had not been around to guide me much. I had to ask other Instructors, to see what they'd do. Luckily, there was another Instructor who had a student that she was failing too. But from what I was provided, I felt I've already did the same thing. So tomorrow, probably most of my day would be gone. As it's from 12pm to 1pm, taking the transit and I might end up having lunch at the nearby coffee shop after the meeting. Meaning I'll probably need to leave the house by 10-10:30am, as I'll need to take the shuttle from my house down to the skytrain station, because driving to the park & ride, usually after 9am, there won't be any parking. To eat after the meeting, probably won't be home until 3 or 4pm.

Then Tuesday night, there's going to be a virtual meeting with the college, along with other Instructors, apparently they wanted ideas on possible changes in the Certificate Program, that would be implemented by September 2027. I feel that the whole program should be like 6-8 months long. Especially how they are doing the Theory now, in the first month, it's only like 16 hrs (over 4 days) per week. Back when I took the Program, it was like 30 hrs a week (Mon-Fri), then, Clinical portion is 3 months, that hasn't changed. But seriously, for 16 hours per week in the Theory? That's too little time to learn so much. So, if they were to keep the 16 hours per week, probably should make it 2 months, then, have 4 months of Clinical. Or, make it the same as how I learned it, a full month of 30 hours per week, then, have 5 months of Clinical. Yes, we are a smaller site, but there is still so much to learn, so many different stations that we could rotate the students into. 3 months does seem a bit tight, especially when we get students who are slow learners. At least the meeting is paid.

Then Wednesday is when I take my car in for new brakes for 9am, they said to leave it for the day, I was hoping I could pick it up in an hour or two. Then, have A & W for breakfast across from them, while I wait. If it'll take more than 2 hours, I might need my dad to come get me, rather than waiting outside by myself for so long.

But dad's hand still hurts from his fall, as it's still a bit swollen by the knuckles, so, mum has been driving. Oh yea, I also need to take my car back to Costco for them to check the torque. But since my dad can't drive my car with his hand like this, I'm not sure when I'll be able to go.. Maybe Tuesday? But I wonder if I'll need to make an appointment, or I could just drive up to their garage and ask them to check it.

So, the Program Coordinator sent me the evaluation that three of the six students filled out for me.. Someone wrote that I wasn't professional enough, and another wrote that because I do not work in all areas, that there are some things I do not know about..

The meeting I had with the Program Coordinator yesterday, she suggested that for this summer, to have me work in those unfamiliar areas, and to possibly meet with someone on campus that works one-on-one with instructors, guiding and supporting us on how to be more professional, set needed boundaries between, instructor-student and instructor-staff. I think I need it, I'm too nice. I also need a more detailed explanation of confidentiality. As a staff apparently emailed the PC in regards to leaking confidentiality of a student's progress.

Remember that it's a learning process for you too where you also need to be supported as a new instructor. It sounds like they are doing just that. You haven't done anything wrong. This is coming from someone who also is a mentor for new instructors in my program. I do this kind of stuff regularly because it is hard adapting to teaching something that you haven't taught before.

We will see how my back thing goes. I do try to rest it quite a bit when I am home. But I have to get my parents' house cleaned out and that involves weekly horrible car rides followed by lots of bending even though I try to have others bend for me. We have set August 1 as a deadline to be done and we still have to have the memorial service in mid June. So it is quite a bit. I am hoping that physical therapy and a chiropractor will be able to help. @Jaeteuk

User Profile: Jaeteuk

It sure is a learning process for me too, I wish there were some courses I could take to help me become a more professional Instructor. Or have some sort of advisor. I really would like to keep teaching, but if students think I'm not professional enough, or if they feel I'm not knowledgable in the department, then I'll need do something about it during this summer, then the college may not use me for long. I also can't let the Management Team down, as they were the ones who appointed me to become a Clinical Instructor.

Does your back feel better when sitting? Or if there's a more comfortable position, maybe you can incorporate that position when cleaning the house. You don't won't to overdo it by bending too much.

@bestVase7265

One group of 3 students saying you weren't professional enough is saying NOTHING. Their opinions are important, but you need to trust yourself as an instructor. You know more than they do and you will figure out these small bumps in the road with the next group. You haven't failed management at all. I am sure that they expect you to also have a learning curve. You are going to be good at this. Just give it more time. You care too much not to do well. Teaching ultimately is all about caring. You have that down pat.

For me, it is the sitting that I can't do. I can stand and lie down, just not sit. Walking is minimally painful but I keep trying. I saw the orthopedist today and he felt like we should be able to get this under control with some better medication, PT and the chiropractor. @Jaeteuk

Officially had the house to myself since Monday after noontime. Sent my parents off to airport through Uber, they're going on vacation again. Flew to Japan, will enjoy a week, before getting on a cruise there. Brother left the past Saturday for a business trip to Slovenia, France, and the UK. I get 10 days to myself.

I'm getting a massage for the first time, in about an hour. My neck had been sore since last Friday. I worked too hard over the weekend, but I felt very productive at work. I've finished many things and even worked on a project my Supervisor asked me to do on Sunday. Although I didn't finish it (would be never ending), but I did as much as I could. At the end of my shift, I felt so satisfied with what I have accomplished, I was all smiles as I sat in my car. It was busy on Saturday too, had two nurses kept giving me instrument sets to complete, as they've bought the missing instruments and they removed and added others. I was definitely multi-tasking a lot on Saturday. So, my neck pain got worse over the weekend. Of course, I didn't feel anything when working, I feel it the next morning.

That being said, I'd better go get dressed now. The clinic is close by, just up the hill, maybe a 10 minute drive away, as there will be two school zones to pass by.

How was your chiropractor appointment?

User Profile: bestVase7265
bestVase7265 June 11th

I hope that you throughly enjoyed the massage. You deserve it. It is great that you get some down alone time as well. I know that used to make you nervous but I can feel you embracing that more now.

I am up to two physical therapy sessions and one chiropractor session every week plus daily exercises, heating and icing. Overall today felt remotely better, but that is probably because I wasn't in a car. The PT person isn't quite sure what to try because everything causes some level of pain for me. But I keep trying and they can see how hard I want to work.

I leave next Monday to spend the week at my parents' former home for the memorial service. It is going to be a taxing week for sure. We will see how it goes. @Jaeteuk

User Profile: Jaeteuk
Jaeteuk OP June 11th

I was a bit nervous with the massage, but I think it went well. My neck is not as sore and tight, I'm keeping up with my hot compressions and doing some stretching too. Was suggested to go back every other week for maintenance. Says my pecs need to be more open, but at least my spine looks good. I'm thinking about keeping up with the massages though, might as well use my medical benefits when I have them. Especially with some pains, it's better to attend to them sooner than later.

I'm happy to hear you're making progress with your pain management too. Hope the car ride won't be too bad later. Keep yourself well cushioned.

I met up with something this morning at the College, to get more insight on how to be a better Clinical Instructor. She suggested I take some courses over the summer for more enlightenment in the philosophy of teaching. So, I'm excited for those. I just hope that I can incorporate the time with my part-time work.

@bestVase7265

User Profile: bestVase7265

Yes, I would keep up with the massage as much as you can. It can definitely help in jobs like yours. L like the idea of getting some training courses on philosophy of teaching. Those always help me and I do a lot of training. What is great is that you can incorporate something new any time. You are constantly figuring out what works for you.

My back is bothering me a bit tonight but it is probably all of the PT and chiropractor in the last few days. I will use the weekend to rest and stay out of the car which will hopefully help for Monday. It is going to be a hard week no matter what. @Jaeteuk

I hope you've rested well this weekend so far.

Since I work the later shift on Sundays, I'm going to check out if I can apply to the teaching program. I'm a bit worried that I require a degree as a prerequisite, as I don't have one. I'll look into it more now.

I hope Monday's car ride won't be too straining for you back! Take pit stops to stretch often.

I might need to take a nap before I head to work later too, the temperature has been very hot the past couple of nights, it's been taking me a while to fall asleep.

Thanks. It has been a pretty restful weekend, but still heavy stress with all of the memorial stuff. My sister and I are very different people and we butt heads often. She is much more forceful than I am. So we will see how each day goes. I am going to try to not do too much and aggravate my back any further.

Good luck in finding out about the class. I hope that it will work out well. Most of those kinds of classes don't require a degree. @Jaeteuk

My brother comes back tomorrow (Thursday), but he'll be gone for another weekend business trip after a week. Hahah.. I just did a brief vacuum of the floors, and took out the garbage I've saved up. Well, not garbage, garbage.. but plastic bags.. I did have to toss out a few veggies my mum had left behind in the fridge, they were starting to mold a little. I'll take it out to the green bin tomorrow morning, when I head out for work.

How was the ride?

The ride was okay because I had a lidocaine patch on my back. More people have started arriving today and my back and leg are bothering me more because I am lying down less. We will see how tomorrow goes. @Jaeteuk

Friday night after work, I stopped at an intersection where one of the traffic lights was malfunctioning, the red wasn't lit. So, I told myself, if I end up stopping at the same intersection the next day, and it still wasn't working, that I'd report it. I actually looked up the numbers to call when I got home Friday night, figured out which city that intersection is a part of, so that I'd report it to the right people.

So, I was lucky enough Saturday night, to have stopped at the same intersection, this time, I was the first car to drive up to the red light, so I glanced over a few times for confirmation. At least the green light worked. Since I had planned to stop for some groceries (I found a place that closes at 10pm every day), so I go there once a week, either on the Friday or Saturday. Once I was parked, I pulled out the phone number online, the one I had checked for the night before. Hesitated for a minute before pressing the Call button (had to briefly practice how I'd word it). The moment the call went through, it went straight to being on hold, as it started playing music, but someone answered the call in less than a minute. I got right to the point, that I wanted to report a traffic light not working, that it wasn't showing the red. Gave the dispatch the intersection street names, saying that I was heading Eastbound. The guy said he'll send an Engineer over to check it out, and thanked me for the report. What I didn't expect was, he asked me for my name and number. Hope it's only for records and that they wouldn't actually call me back.

So, I'll see if I get lucky tonight after work, to stop at that intersection, then, I'll know if my report had been addressed immediately and if it was fixed.

But you know, making this phone call, I wouldn't have done it if it was the me, two years ago. When I saw it on Friday, I was like the 4th car from the light, with a big truck in front of me, so I couldn't see the traffic lights up ahead, so I looked at the one that was on the lamp post of where the pedestrian lights is, and noticed it was dark, the red light was not lit. During the ride, I was already thinking about looking up on Google once I got home, how I could report it. Then, told myself, if I luckily stop at the same intersection Saturday night, and noticed it still didn't work, that I'd report it once I'm parked at the grocery store. So, that's what I did. To me, that pep talk the night before, and thinking about reporting it, that's like a promise to myself. Something that I would want to do, and like all promises I make, whether that be for someone else or myself, I don't make promises I can't fulfill. So, that's why I ended up with making the call, after rehearsing what I'd say in the report. From Google, I already knew I had to provide the details of the intersection, and since I'm not good with directions, I had to look up whether I was driving Westbound or Eastbound.

Let's just say, it felt good. Something out of the extraordinary from my usual self. These type of changes, have been slowly surfacing, ever since I started working at this Hospital last April. It feels good, I think that working here, finding my purpose, a calling almost, has definitely built confidence in myself. Making me do things I wouldn't have compared to two years ago.

User Profile: bestVase7265

I agree. You are creating a new self. The new job has changed you and you are doing more things that are bolder and helpful to the community as a whole. Your vision of what is possible is evolving. I am very proud of you and you should be too. @Jaeteuk

User Profile: Jaeteuk
Jaeteuk OP June 29th

I did luckily stop at the same light after work last night, and saw that the red is lighting up. I was all smiles, thinking, "hey, that was my doing". Just the same reaction to when I reported poor road vision and had the city install "no parking" signs. Every time I see those signs, I think about the good I've done. To make other drivers more safe when checking for traffic before making a left turn.

You know, it makes me wonder, I might've been the only caller to report that the red wasn't lighting up. To see how it has been fixed, the city did send someone to check it out right away. For me to see it not working two nights in a row, at least, it shows that it hasn't reported on the first night. And who knows, maybe it hadn't been working for days, as when I went through the intersection on Friday, it was already a green light.

I guess drivers either didn't care to report or didn't notice it. Oh well, at least I saw it and did something to get it fixed.

I'm wanting to report something else, risky driving behaviour. For two days in a row, while crossing another intersection (I'm on the right lane), the cars in the left lane, after crossing the intersection would end up into my lane. The first day, the car ended up in front of me, and the second day, a car wanted to cut into my lane right after the intersection, as there's a small street on the right, that many people miss. I even got honked at yesterday, I had to move to the right side a bit, otherwise that car would've scraped my sides. So, I'm wanting to report it, make a suggestion to maybe make a sign before crossing the intersection to drivers to the street up ahead. So, drivers aren't cutting over to the right lane immediately after crossing the intersection, putting drivers already in the right lane at risk. The stretch of road before the intersection, is usually single lane, as there are cars parked on the curb, but about a block away from the intersection, you could get into the right lane. So, for those who need to get into that side street, could easily choose the right lane before the intersection, so the could turn into that street after crossing it. I always go into the right lane because I need to turn right at the next big intersection.

I was searching online again, to see how and where I could report it. It says that if it's regarding lane confusion, as in, needing to repaint lanes or signs, then, to report to the city; but if it causes risk in drivers, then to report to the non-emergency police. So, I found that there was an online way to report it. I'll be checking that out today. I took notes in my phone, as to what had happened. I also know, there are many drivers who change lanes before they finish crossing an intersection (which if they took the driving test here, they would know you aren't allowed to change lanes while still driving in the intersection). And honestly, that side street, unless you're family with that area, drivers can easily miss it, I think that is why many drivers end up immediately cutting into the right lane after crossing the intersection to turn into that street. But most of those drivers, they only care about themselves, which in the end, put driver like me, at risk of either getting honked at, or possibly getting hit. Luckily there were plenty of space on the right side before the curb, that I was able to move my car to the right a bit for that car, otherwise, she would've scraped/hit my side. Why is she honking at me? I should be honking at her for making a dangerous move, I didn't do anything wrong. I just shrugged it off, as I know it wasn't my problem but hers, but it was a risky/dangerous moment.

On Friday, near the end of my shift, my right knee locked for a second, then, during the drive home, my foot and toes were a bit numb and tingly. So yesterday during my shift, I requested to work in another area where I wouldn't need to be crouching down continuously. I even wore an elastic bandage in support of the knee, as it usually works help ease the pain. So the area I was supposed to work in, someone else is there. We received an equipment where everyone knows it's a priority to clean. It was already there when I started my shift at 11am. By 1pm, it was still there, so I reported it to the management on site, and then, was told to mind my own business.

As usual, I messaged my Supervisor, who doesn't work weekends. Most of the time, it's just venting for me. But I know that at times, she would end up messaging the management person on site asking about it. Well, yesterday, it came back to me. And the guy had a "chat" with me about it. Basically telling me to not report things to her during her time off, and my concerns, I should address the staff myself first, then, if not resolved to go to him. Let's just say, near the end of our long "chat", he probably saw I was upset, so he said, he's telling me as a friend, not as a Management personnel to employee. He was also saying, instead of messaging, that I should send official emails instead.

I sniffled a few times during his lecturing, and it put me in a bad mood afterwards. Was very upset and depressed, and all I thought about for the rest of my shift was "I'm going to have a drink when I get home later". I listened to music with earphones until almost 3am before I slept, and I was in bed by 10pm. Waking up this morning, I'm still depressed and saddened.

With my Supervisor, she had said that I could message her anytime about work, she may not reply, but she'll read them. A lot of the times, it's just venting for me, not necessarily asking her to act on it, let alone, tell the management guy on site about it. So, yesterday, I ended up sending her an email, asking if it's okay for me to be sending her messages during her days off? If she doesn't like it, I'll stop. The Management guy, that nurse, in the beginning, I thought we could be friends, but aside from yesterday's chat, he said something else to me. I usually arrive earlier than my start time, most of the time, I'd drop by his office to ask where he wants me to work, as I can be moved depending on the workload. Well yesterday, with my knee pain, and I had forgotten to grab the elastic bandage I have at home, I remembered I put one in their office cabinet, where they kept bandaids. So, when I arrived earlier, I when there to use it. As I was wrapping my knee, another staff came by asking about an instrument. Then, after I've finished wrapping it, he was like, "Do you come into the office and chat with nurses here on other days?" Basically telling me to stop going to him, as other staff may see, and say things about me.

You know me, I like what I do, so sometimes, I feel joy in something, and I would sometimes message him to share, but it's when he's not working on site, and he said he didn't like to hear about work, when he's not at work. So, fine, I've refrained from sending him work-related messages when he's not at work. When my parents and brother were on vacation, I tried to arrange a mealtime with him on his days off, that never happened either. We couldn't pick a date where it works for him. And he never followed up about it afterwards either. Here I am, trying to keep some sort of friendship going outside of work, and there's no response. Then, at work, I'm told to mind my own business, to not go to him to chat whenever I arrived early, to not report to my supervisor on the weekends about every little thing, etc..

To tell an Aquarius to not care about others or the big picture in things, and tell them to mind their own business, and telling me what I should and shouldn't do, that it's for my own good, that totally changed how I think of our relationship. At least with my shift later, he'd be gone by the time I start, but I think I'll be depressed for the next few days. You know that feeling when you feel you could trust someone, then, something happens and they kind of push you away? For me, it's better to cut off ties earlier on, than to give more chances and then be hurt in the end anyways. So from today onwards, I will no longer drop by the office when I arrive earlier, I will not message him outside of work or during work about anything (will only go to him with instrumental questions), and just keep my distance.

It's okay, when I think about it, he might not be around to stay anyways.. he's mentioned before that maybe sometime next year, he'll take time off work from both his jobs and go backpacking with friends for a few months, and that he might not even return to our site for work. Looking it that way, as friends, we probably won't be able to keep in touch much. It's just unfortunate, as in the beginning, when we shared more of our personal stories, I really thought he'd be a good listener to me. But outside of work, we really have nothing of common interest to talk about. There goes a potential friendship down the drain.

A lot of things happened this morning.

I had a dental cleaning appointment for 9am, as usual, I parked my car at the mall across from it. When I returned to my car, a lady was standing by it. Turns out she drove her vehicle into mine. So ended up calling for a claim, had it towed, and just got a call back from the claim centre. The other driver has called in and is 100% responsible. So now, they put me through to get a rental car, the moment we hung up the phone, the rental company called me to set up a time and day to pick up my car. I made it for Sunday at 9am, as it's mainly on the Sunday, that I need to drive to work. Other days, I could take transit. My dad says to pick it up sooner, so he can drive it too. Since everything is covered, even gas, I could reimburse. But I'm like, I'm the primary driver, using it because I cannot drive mine, why would he be driving it (in his mind, because it's basically free, he wants to use it as a benefit). But whenever, I made the appointment with them, that I'd drop by on Sunday and 9am to pick it up. He did say the earliest is Wed. Dad's like, pick it up sooner, so he can drive it too. I'm thinking "what the heck, I'm the one who's car is non-driveable, you have your own car. This rental is for my use, not you to use as a benefit." Even when I have my own car, my dad doesn't drive it on my days off or when I don't need to use it. The most he'd do with my car, is change sides on the driveway. Depending on whether my brother needs to drive to work or not. So, no, I'm not going to pick it up any sooner, so he can drive it. Getting the rental is not for that purpose, it's for work. I can transit to work Thurs to Sat, so I'll stick with Sunday for getting that car.

It sounds like you have had a very frustrating few days between work and the car. I am sorry for you.

Take a little time to decompress. It can be hard when friendships take a turn, but you also can't be sure when they will shift to something different yet again. Other people also have bad days for completely different reasons than you and that can cause them to react in unexpected ways. I wouldn't consider the friendship over, just evolving. It may never be as close as it was at the beginning, but that's okay too.

But you do deserve a few days to be a little sad as you process things. Sending lots of peace. @Jaeteuk

I definitely woke up still feeling sad on Sunday, and throughout my shift. I felt a bit restless when I woke up this morning. Then, this incident happened with my car. I had my morning planned. Was going to meet my parents for breakfast at a Chinese Restaurant after my dental appointment. Luckily, that I decided to go back to my car, to put down my goodies from my appointment (you know how after a cleaning, they give you a bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss). Walking towards my car, I saw a lady standing in front of it, then, as I got closer, I saw the side of my car was sticking out.

One positive thing before this ordeal, during my wait at the dentist clinic, I checked my school's email, and I was accepted into that Teaching program, and my application for the course, that starts today, has been put through. Except, when I got home to log in, the course is not showing on my dashboard yet. Checking back in the email, it did say it may take up to 24hrs upon receiving the acceptance letter, before the course will appear on my dashboard. So, I've ordered the textbook to be shipped to my house. I will check again tomorrow morning, to see if I can view the course.

I will also call the car rental place tomorrow morning, and ask if I can change the pickup date from Sunday to Thursday. I figured, since it's practically free for me, even the gas can be reimbursed if I needed to refill it, I might as well drive to work for all 4 days. Before, I drove only 3 of the 4 days. Since it's the summer, I noticed when I took transit to work on Thursdays, there's a lot more parking space available, if I arrived early enough for a spot. Also, Nurses are on strike at the moment too, so maybe that also freed up more parking space, as they are not allowed to work any overtime hours, and maybe some are on vacation during the summer.

This car thing also took my mind off of that work incident. So, I guess that's a good thing? At least, I won't be stressing about the work incident. Now, it's more like a waiting game, see how long it'll take for them to have my car repaired. I'm more worried the type of car they'd give me as the rental, although I did say I wanted something similar in size.

Sometimes things do pile together in weird ways to make you reimagine things more quickly than you would have otherwise. It allows you to think big picture rather than worrying about small details.

Getting to take the class is the most important thing. I bet that you will enjoy it.

I am sure that the car rental and car repair will work out fine even if it is a bit different for a few days.@Jaeteuk

I've just emailed help desk, as I don't know how to log in as a student, since my current log in is as an employee, the course is not showing up on my online dashboard. It looks like I won't be able to start doing the course until Sunday. As I'll need to work the next 4 days.

I'm a bit nervous about driving a car other than my own though. I wonder what kind of car they'll give me, I'm picking it up at 8am in the morning, and driving it to work. I've already thought of some inconveniences with the rental car. I won't be able to use the parking app for staff parking at the hospital, as the app is linked to my car's license plate and I am unable to add the rental's license plate through the app myself. Meaning, I'll need to use the Staff Parking code at the machine, to pay instead. I might also need to end up playing music from my phone, as it doesn't feel safe to connect my phone's bluetooth into a rental car, I feel that it would take information in my phone.

My dad will drive me down to the car rental place, he wants to add his name to it too, in case he ends up driving it. He is one of the secondary drivers included in my insurance. With this incident, and the thing that happened at work, aside from two of my students, I haven't told anyone else at work about having my car hit. I ended up sharing the news with that guy friend, the one I've known for decades, my sister (brother's best friend's sister, whom I see as my big sis too). I've refrained myself from telling my Supervisor, or that nurse. Like I said, I'm going to keep my distance for a while.

At the moment, I'm just worried about starting my course too late, and waiting for the call about my car from the Estimator. See how long it'll take until I get my car back.

One step at a time. Car rentals are nerve wracking at first, but you do adapt to them more quickly than you think. For me the biggest challenge is usually the new blind spots.

Even if you have to start the course a few days late, you will catch up quickly I am sure.

You can tell some people at work about your car accident. They deserve to know that you are having a rough few weeks in general. That usually means they are kinder with you. Give them that opportunity to rebuild relationships just a bit. Even if it is just a single sentence about having to rent a car because yours got hit can be helpful. It doesn't have to be a long conversation. @Jaeteuk

Actually, this rental is slightly better than mine. With the blind spots, a red warning light shows on my side mirrors.

I think it's just more stressful because everything happened on the same day. Car accident, course starting (where I had trouble logging in and felt I was behind already), and then to have to deal with the insurance company and rental place for the week. That day's talking on the phone, was the longest and frequent, ever. For someone who had never liked talking on the phone, and to be doing something for the first time, it made the experience that much more nerve wracking.

I'm also worried with the course. As I mainly only have like three and half days to study, I'm not sure if I can meet the weekly deadlines, and it doesn't help that we get until 11:59pm on Sundays to hand them in, as I don't usually get home from work until after midnight. We will be assigned partners, for the group assignments, so I hope I get a good buddy, and I hope that we can work around my schedule. I gave the course instructor a heads up, telling her my work schedule, and that I'll try my best to meet the deadlines, as with the course, it mentions that no lates are allowed. I definitely won't be able to do much on days I work, as I'm out of the house for like 12-13 (including travel time) hours per day, by the time I get home, I just eat a snack, wind down, and get ready for bed.

At work, need to pick and choose who to tell about my car accident, has to be someone who sees my stress, otherwise, it might end up as a gossip topic. A few people know about it, so it's good. But with the nervousness and stress in driving a rental, I think my stress will be there throughout the time I have the car, as it's not my own, I feel the responsibility is that much greater. So, the stress and nervousness will always be there. I'm just not used to have a hand brake, as my car uses a foot brake.

You have got all of this. You are doing so much better than last year with just talking on the phone alone.

Yes, when you rent a car you do feel like you are always going to damage it. That is a normal stress with a rental. But the side mirror lights will help.

I am glad you told a person or two at work about your stress. That is enough.

The course instructor is going to expect people to also be working, sometimes weird hours. Give yourself a chance to get into the course. My guess is that it will go smoother than you think. It is all about what you are learning, not as much about grades as it was before. @Jaeteuk

I got a message Saturday morning, my long-distance online friend from South Africa lost her father. He's still young, my mum's age only. I hope her family is okay, he was a very humble man and she was always proud of him. He was a great man for their small community, really gave back to the people. They were a very close knit family, I've sent my condolences and a virtual hug.

My assignment for next week, I'm a bit stuck. I need to create a feedback questionnaire with at least 5 questions, something that would be collected from my students that may help me with my teaching. I need to create the actual questionnaire template. A two part assignment, create the template questionnaire, then, write a rationale report on it. Every week, there are two assignments to hand in, I'll need to work on another thing too. I'm a bit tired this morning, so, I'm not doing any readings. I'll do it in my next 3 days, I usually hand in my assignments by Wednesday, since I work Thursday to Sunday. I've got another one hour workshop tomorrow evening.

So what kinds of things do you most want to know from your students? Think in terms of the activities where they learned the most and also what kinds of things they could have done themselves to improve their learning. You don't have to just do negative type questions about what you could do better.

I am sorry to hear about your friend's sudden loss.

It sounds like the course is going well. @Jaeteuk
