Sociopath, or something else?
Ever since I was a kid I've been told I was very empathetic towards others, I didn't really know what it meant but went along with it. But to be honest I never really felt empathy or guilt for others. I just said what I needed to say for them to shut up. To this day I struggle to realize that my actions have emotional impacts on others. Just last week, my mom was giving me a kiss on the forehead, saying not to hit her (teasing me because I hit people if they startle me). Irrational me decided it'd be hilarious to punch her, which led to her slapping me back. I didn't feel any remorse for what I did, I knew it was wrong but I didn't really care. I was more engulfed in self pity than actual guilt. I still haven't even apologized because it just feels like empty words. I don't know if I'm going overkill for wanting to get tested for it, but I wanted to get some feedback here before asking my parents.

I don’t think it’s sociopathic. I myself do the same thing where I don’t empathize with others but will say whatever seems right at that point. I think it’s just our way of logical reasoning where whatever we say we hope it’s something others want to hear. No matter if it’s to end the conversation with another or just having a good impression of ourselves. But of course our thinking may not be always correct, as you said, that punch might’ve seem playful to you, it might’ve been painful for others. So I think a good choice here is just to explain yourself and apologize. You don’t have any bad intentions in the first place anyways. Hope you resolve this!💕
