BPD rage

Many people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) experience anger so intense it is often referred to as "borderline rage. This anger sometimes comes in response to a perceived interpersonal slight -- for example, feeling criticized by a loved one.

The above statement is taken from this article. Anger can definitely not help you and often pushs the people you care about away. Anger is definitely a strong emotion among people who have BPD but how do we deal with this ? Here are some ways.

1. Take a break and write down how you are feeling. Often we want to act in the moment however acting in the moment can end alot of relationships.

2. Distract yourself. Take a walk, turn your phone off, do not engage with what's ever making you feel angry.

3.listen to calming music. Music for me has really help me with alot of situations.

4.Take a cold shower.

5.Talk about your anger with someone you trust. Talking about things that distress us or makes us unhappy can really benefit us.

Let us know what helps you ?

Well for me, I find, if I am able, screaming really loud (either outloud or into a pillow) helps a lot. Just keep screaming till you cant scream anymore. Be careful to not harm anyones ears in the process! Also holding your breath with an icepack over your eyes helps. Then once you cant hold it anymore, take deep breaths as slowly as you can.

@Claerity19

Heya Claer!
Screaming into a pillow is definitely a coping strategy I have heard of before. I can't say I've heard of the ice pack strategy, but that's super cool and innovative! I'm glad it helps you 😃 Maybe some more people will give it a try after hearing it from you 💖

@Claerity19 I wish that helped me, I just have to remove myself and calm down and that can take a few days usually. When I'm in that mindset rarely can I actually verbalise what's going on.

I found a gym workout helpful sometimes or just distracting my mind with things like podcasts, gaming or TV shows.

It does mean I have a habit of isolating behaviour but as far as I'm concerned if people are offended by it, which some of my housemates are they can kiss my arse.

@Claerity19 yeah that's always the same for me, but I have a terrible mentality of don't say it unless you mean it and apply it perpetually in all aspects of my life

I feel like I'm always angry and not really sure what would help.Whenever I'm angry I feel like I ruin everything and I don't want to be around people when I get angry but I find it so hard to calm down.
