Borderline Personality and psychosis episode
I have been recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, with bipolar symptoms, and bulimic tendencies. I am a mom of a 2 year old little boy, and struggle with distress tolerance as I am currently going through c-PTSD flashbacks which lead me into a psychosis in June. I am just looking to chat with people who have gone through similar struggles. Send me a message if you feel like chatting!
Hi i am currently going through something like that with my girlfriend and i desperately need some understanding from one
Hi! I am more than open to listening and trying to help if you want to share a bit about what is going on? It is incredibly tough to go through, and my husband had a really hard time as well. Is there private messaging here? (New user). Feel free to send me a message if so.
@borderlinemama she has bipolar and its just hard for me that i feel like my mental state/emotions have drastically changed because of her and i still cant figure out what im doing wrong or if im triggering her somehow. Can you tell me how your husband dealt with it?
@mikebillz Is she being helped by a physician or psychologist at all? Medications? Is it a new diagnosis? (Just wondering because sometimes things can be a lot harder in the beginning). My husband is a very patient man, but I was having delusions and it was very scary for us, so I can imagine the mental tole it can be taking on you. Patience is key, and just trying to listen and understand, but not settle for taking the lashing out all the time. It is okay to stand up for yourself, and to not feel okay with what is going on. It can be just as hard for a partner as it can be for someone going through it. Have you tried to talk to her about your concerns and how you are feeling? From my experience with it, it is likely not you doing anything wrong to her, but something in the environment or something said that brings her back to a past event. But, it is likely hard for her to explain that in the moment so she could lash out and not even realise it. But talk about it with her, maybe when emotions aren't so high?
@borderlinemama She takes no medications, seeks no help, doesnt talk to anyone, she was diagnosed at 13 she is currently 22 and i am 21 we live together and have a 1 year old son i am a very patient man, i do stand up for myself sometimes but when i do she gets even more mad than what she already is and tries to hit me or fight me like if im nothing to her or a complete stranger.. i been thru a lot of psychical abuse from her for 3 years and now living with her for a year has mentally damaged me to a point where i myself am depressed and scared.. scared to let go and scared to let my son go through this when hes older and also scared that she wont get better even tho i try to make her a better person it just doesnt work.. i always told her my feelings but she apologizes and then days later does the same thing its like she doesnt learn from her mistakes.. and i try to help her understand her mistakes and fix them buts its pointless..
@mikebillz it sounds like a really rough time, I am sorry you are going through that. One thing I can say is it sounds like you care a lot about her. It is not your responsibility to make her a better person, she has to WANT to be a better person and learn about herself, which can be really hard in a state of depression or mania that comes with bipolar. Has she ever expressed why she wouldn't want to be on medication to help? Or speak to a therapist? 13 is a bit young to be diagnosed with bipolar - did she have a bad experience at diagnosis? Or does she not beleive she needs the help?
I don’t think you would deal with bipolar and borderline personality disorder in similar ways. Bipolar is a mood disorder and borderline personality is a personality disorder. I know how, as a pw borderline personality , anyone I loved, I needed them to validate loving me. over and over. The slightest shift in a look they gave me , to me meant abandonment. So I would ask do you really love me? Sometimes I would say please don’t tell me the truth , I couldn’t handle it. It sounds ridiculous even now but had I someone close to me still here, I’d be asking it or thinking about asking it. There was one that would promise never to leave me but would over and over. I wish I had not allowed it because it was at at time of constant loss in my life.

Hi, welcome to the site and sorry that you're both going through that.
There is private messaging, but member accounts are only able to message with people who are on listener accounts.
If you'd like to find a listener to chat with, the best place to look is the Browse Listeners page. (In this link, I've applied some filters: Verified Listeners only, who take chats on BPD, and who have lived experience with BPD.)
