When I came across this article I became super upset! Then I went to do more research on this question, Can BPD be cured ? I was super surprise by the readings I came across. I always thought I could go though treatment and then BPD is gone, No more BPD. I kinda felt like something sucked the hope out of me 😱

I felt super angry. I hate it when someone says something negative about BPD.

What are your thoughts about this question and article ?

What emotions do you face when someone says something negative about BPD ?

What treatment are you doing and has it help ?

Interesting article. Thank you for posting the link.

In one place it says:

Among [one] group, 94 percent suffered no recurrence of their conditions and were able to maintain their symptom-free status indefinitely.

And later:

...continuing freedom from BPD symptoms was an achievable goal for most.

So I think the writer uses the word "cured" in a strange and illogical way that is never really explained. Maybe saying "cannot be cured" is just clickbait to get people to read the article and advertise the company. Those 94% sound like they're cured to me!

Well or maybe they refer to "not cured" as in... basically the symptoms COULD always come back if you slip back into old habits, which could still happen. But that could actually still support your theory that in the first place they're just trying to advertise their company cheeky... because if ppl were too much on the safe side and felt like they're cured, they don't need to keep trying and all that.

But apart from that, I'd say that wasn't quite the point of this discussion. As in, even if the actual purpose of that article is what you stated here... it's still an interesting discusssion to talk about whether or not BPD can be cured. Or if it's even such a "bad thing" if it CANNOT be cured, but ppl can learn to live with it, so it's okay and their life quality feels way better compared to where they're coming from. yes

i feel that bpd cant be cured, which i also feel is the case for most other mental illnesses; you can treat the symptoms and get to a mindeset where you may feel its cured, but in the end, the illness is still there, just lurking in your body. With bpd, i have done tons of research, out of personal curiosity, and because im a psych major and going into therapy; the majority of professionals i've seen say that a good treatment for bpd (depending on the person of course, everyone is different!) is lifelong! things like DBT, weekly therapy sessions, and group therapy have all been proven to reduce the symptoms of bpd by large amounts.

i feel very badly when someone talks negatively about bpd (mostly when i hear people repeating stigmas or stereotypes they believe about it, like "all people with bpd are abusive for instance, i get very upset when hearing this). i really wish that there would not be so much judgement surrounding personality disorders, it can be really upsetting and make the people who have them feel badly, like we've personally done something wrong because of it, but thats just not the case. in reality, we never asked for this (we never ask for any mental disorders!), and all we can really do is try to control it and get treatment to help control it; and fight against all the stigmas against it

i am not in treatment yet unfortunately, as i'm currently looking for a new therapist, but when i do i'm probably going to try to get into DBT therapy, as from my research i've heard that its a very good treatment

So my understanding is that you all agree that BPD can't be cured but if learning how to cope with it can help the symptoms to become none ? As to say you no longer have the diagnosis ? Which means BPD is gone or not ? I agree with Charlie I think 94% is cured. Maybe the mindset of not believing it came be cured is a stigma ? Just a thought. Thanks for sharing everyone. I love all your options. Makes you think deep. 💓 You can read this about coping with BPD and this how someone wrote about the hope of overcoming bpd
