School activity
I'm in nursing school, today we did a lab called "hearing voices" it was supposed to help us understand how a person with mental illness thinks. Unfortunately I was not able to opt out, even with my history of mental illness. It really upset me after it was over and I was crying because my teacher said that I should be able to handle it better. I told her I have a history and that maybe in the future give someone the option to opt out and she told me that she's never met a nurse with mental illness!?!? What!?! So not true! I know tons. It really upsets me that my teacher was so heartless to this subject. Also, now, hours later, I'm still having anxiety and working off a panic attack, I feel like everything is crashing down and like there is a heaviness to my heart and mind. I hate this feeling. I hate feeling so alone.
With your history, do you know of anything that helps you when you feel like this? It seems like focusing on resolving short term symptoms is the priority for now. Relaxation technqiues, grounding, things that make you feel safe, etc?
Longer term, does your school have something like a disability centre? They may help you work out an arrangement that is healthier to you in the future!

Great reply. :)

This sounds like a horrible experience. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Thanks! I had a hard time for a few hours after that, and I talked to one of my friends and called into my therapist for an appt. I am feeling a lot better now but it was still a horrible experience. Long term for my school they do have counseling services if I choose to, unfortunately I graduate soon so that wouldn't be long term, I think I'll stick with my therapist I have now, great suggestion though.

I'm glad you're feeling better. :)
