i just started seeing my therapist I’ve seen her twice. I think I have bpd. I tried explaining but she knows hardly anything about bpd. She keeps trying to like fit a box of bipolar but I really don’t think I’m bipolar. It’s so much more than my moods and they don’t last for weeks or months at a time. They switch constantly every single day and last from minutes to hours and switch almost instantly. I could ramble on forever about why I think I have it. My aunt has been diagnosed I’m not sure about my mom because I hardly ever talk to her and I don’t think she’s ever been to therapy or anything. I have researched so many things about so many different things. I’m aware I could be wrong but how am I going to get the understand recognition I need? What do I do. It’s not as easy as just asking my dad to switch. That would probably be a problem. What do I do? Can anyone talk? I need help. Preferably someone with first hand experience and has bpd?

@selfconfidentTortoise1212 If you've already had two sessions of therapy, and you don't think your therapist understands you, then it's your therapist's responsibility to do something about that. For example, she could refer you to another kind of therapy, or to a psychologist or psychiatrist. It's well known that therapy only works effectively if you and your therapist are a good "fit". You could discuss this problem in your next session and ask your therapist how she thinks you can move forward.

Getting a diagnosis is a complicated matter. The trouble is, there's no medication or specific cure for BPD. If you do manage to get a diagnosis of BPD, it doesn't help. You need the same therapy with a BPD diagnosis or without a BPD diagnosis. I think this is why many therapists don't care very much about diagnosing BPD.
