Things People With BPD Wish You Knew

If this is part of your life story, please share your insights! What would you like the rest of us to learn? What should we know about people in this community? How would you like people to interact with you? Should people ask questions? What’s the best way for people to learn about this? Do you have any resources (books, movies, YT videos, etc) that will give us greater understanding and empathy and kindness toward people who experience the same things you do?

If you’re not on this journey, please share insights you’ve learned while interacting with those who are, whether family, friends, or anyone else. Share things you’ve read, and ask if they’re true. Share beliefs that you have, ask questions, and more! This is a safe space where you can learn about things you’ve never experienced. <3

Let’s have a gentle, fun, friendly conversation among friends! As a song in one of the Land Before Time movies says, “It takes all sorts to make a world!” <3

Looking forward to this thread ❤️

@jesusredeemedme2425 There's this whole checklist ✔️ of negative symptoms for those like me with BPD and I just don't like it. I'm sure I don't even have to give a list of examples. When it comes to BPD, there's just a whole lot of negativity. Personally, I got diagnosed in my mid 20s and it's something I have always embraced. Something I have always owned no matter how crazy people have made me out to be. At the end of the day, ok, Desiree may very well be crazy 🤪 but that's ok. I'm also a lot of other things. I truly believe because of me having BPD it's the reason I am how I am. Let's talk about my good. 😀 I'm creative and smart. I love learning. I am empathetic and compassionate. Who cares if I'm overly emotional. I like to experience all my feelings and emotions-- good and "bad". I think that's why I can be loving to the degree I am. Not overly loving though, but when I give my ❤️ I can actually love. And no, not that crazy stalker love. The love that I will still love you no matter how much you hurt me and try to break me. The love that makes me loyal even when I shouldn't be. I'm also passionate. Passion is something that is a must for me. I gotta have it. Without passion in my heart, I can't do something. No matter how much I try, if my heart isn't into it.... I just can't do it. I require it in order for me to truly thrive. ❤️ So yea, I want people to know this about me and my BPD. It's mine. It's me and I'm ok with that.

No "normal" wants to have something like this. It definitely isn't an easy ride. Trust me, it's been a whole rollercoaster. But with everything in life, we have to make due with the cards we are dealt. We have to deal and adapt and pray that God helps us overcome it. God's been the one to help me get by and cope emotionally. So, oh yeah, that's another thing to know about my BPD-- I'm resilient. Nobody can break me or be more hard on myself that I have been toward me when I'm struggling. 😀 So yayyy me!

So anyway, I say all this to say-- if you know me, don't try abd treat me differently. Don't feel sorry for me or my childhood and past. Don't try and avoid me to not trigger me. Don't be different. Just accept me for me on all my days. Don't try and diagnose me and definitely don't throw anything in my face about things I open and share with you or things you witness from me. My bad days don't define. Just love me. Just accept me. So yea, that's all. 😀

The best way for someone to learn or interact with someone like us is the same exact way we want everybody to interact with anybody. We don’t Want to be tiptoed around we don’t want anybody to feel like they have to walk on eggshells because in reality we are the ones who have heightened emotions, Or a dysregulation of emotions so It becomes at some point a problem we have to deal with because it’s not always other people’s fault. People who have borderline like myself will soon come to the realization I finally have at my age, That it’s not that we can’t control it. It’s that it’s really really hard to do on our own. Unfortunately, the same disorder that we want to get treated as the same disorder why we can’t get treated properly. My borderline is coring with disassociation disorder, major depressive disorder, severe anxiety, and social anxiety And trying to go to a doctor I disassociate and don’t tell them what they need to know. Or a very big thing with borderline is any kind of rejection whether it is real or not if we think it is a rejection if it is a frown because a mosquito bite you, but we didn’t see the mosquito it triggers, a serious serious like emotion we can’t deal with, for lack of a better word, And we will go out of our way to make sure that either you don’t abandon us or we don’t have to feel that abandonment. And a lot of times the other person has no idea that we’re feeling that way actually almost 100% of the time. If you want to learn about people like us then for me, I think you should just ask. I don’t find it offensive. I think that when we talk about it, it makes us feel better so I think if you wanna learn about borderlines just ask questions? The only advice I would give is maybe try to word things more gentle than you would because we can take things as like a taunt which is a rejection. Now our own triggers are our own problem, but that’s my advice.

@Handawg The whole not wanting others to feel like they have to walk on eggshells thing... exactly! Just be regular around us. Ask us straight up what you want. Don't switch up. Just treat us the same as others. ♡

I, too, suffer from a couple of those "disorders" you mentioned. I'm also guilty of not disclosing how I really am. Sometimes it's just easier to say "I'm fine" than to really explain how I am or how I feel... especially when it feels like a non BPD won't ever truly understand it to the extent I feel. Lol. At least in my brain.

I think there's so much beauty in those of us with BPD when you really sit and think about it. What do you think? 😉 I hope you're doing well, @Handawg, and that you have a great day.
