hi there ! i’m a girl who’s in her last year of highschool ,, im 17. and i believe ive had a mood disorder or possible personality disorder for a few years of my life now , that no one’s really taking seriously including myself lolol. ive told my momma this several times , but i come from a poc home .. so they don’t really believe in mental illness / disorders. i deeply believe i have this issue , but everytime given opportunity to speak up i never do ( which is why i say i don’t take it seriously ) . i have a list of my “symptoms” and have overall situations and experiences i can talk about , and would like to know what someone who IS diagnosed with any of the such thinks of this. am i just an attention seeking crybaby , or do i really have an issue ive been ignoring for a while now ?

anyone who is willing to speak about this , please reply to the thread or message me given the experiences and situations are things i do not wanna speak about publicly “publicly” if you get me. thanks and have a good day / evening and or night , depending on wherever you’re from ! <3

Hello, welcome to 7 Cups! 💜

Only a mental health professional will be able to give a diagnosis, but importantly your experiences are real and matter regardless of whether you have any diagnoses. They mattered to you enough that you came onto here wanting to seek help for them and receive support/understanding. (And having those experiences belittled certainly matters and affects you also and makes everything more difficult.)

There isn't some magical cutoff where it's like "you have to be suffering this much for your feelings to matter" or "you need to have this official/authoritative diagnosis or else I won't take you seriously". If you're struggling, then that deserves attention and care. Really sorry to hear that your feelings aren't being taken seriously and you aren't able to talk about them without being ridiculed.

Something I tell people a lot in this space who are asking "do I have __ personality disorder" is... even if you don't officially "have" a specific mental health condition, if the descriptions of that disorder resonate, more often than not all of the tips/tricks/self-care guidance for that condition will still be helpful to you. Self-help and tips for dealing with mood disorders and personality disorders are often things that are just universally helpful for anybody with similar experiences.

Would be happy to PM back and forth with you (or talk in this thread) about what you've been experiencing if you want to be able to share more about it.

hi there :) thank you for the welcome !

yes i’m aware , that only a mental health professional could give me a diagnosis.. but like you said , i’ve been dealing with some issues recently - or really for a while and felt the need to speak to someone else about this before going so far to

talk to someone and they just tell me i’m simply a teenage girl through a crisis if you know what i mean ? i really appreciate you being so kind and supportive , because ya im not really being taken so seriously at home :/

you’re advice is very helpful and i’d like to PM back and forth with you when you’ve got a second just to talk about that ! i just want some clarity on whether i need to go see someone , or this is simply a rough patch in the process right now .

Hey love

I have a formal diagnosis of bpd eupd. Also under assessment for adhd.

I completely hear your experience of confusion and conflicting feelings surrounding the underlying concerns and am happy to discuss these together, with a wide understanding of the condition and how it's affected me for many years. X
