Beneath the surface
In the quiet dawn, he walks alone,
A doubting heart, a skeptic’s home.
Barista’s smile, a fleeting cheer,
Is there meaning in kindness here?
Acts without gain, yet what’s the cost?
Compassion shared, in emptiness lost.
True kindness flickers, a transient spark,
In a world where light is often dark.
In the end, as shadows blend,
What mends the soul may also rend.
In simple gestures, truth and guise,
Life’s meaning hides in soft goodbyes.

Thank you @GoldenRuleJG! I wrote this last year. I was struggling with grieving, and I channelled it into writing. Joining community poetry reading also helped me get out of my head hehe.

Kindness, does it make a difference?
Does it just hang in the air unrecognized?
The legacy I wish to impart on this world is one where anyone who came into my presence felt better and their spirits lifted!
Even if it's only a sprinkle of difference, then yes, it'll be worth it!
