Haunted Ships

Haunted Ships

Such a lovely occasion,

Such generous hospitality.

The weariness that comes from,

1,000 fantasy realities.

I can rest here…

The home is open,

But the door is closed.

The door is closed?

Walking me down the hallway,

As my mind begins to slip,

Talking in my sleep, I say

Something about haunted ships.

Mortal danger is grinning,

An insect in a hot pink spiderweb,

In words there is meaning,

Especially the one that I manage to catch.

Why was I fighting?

What I had was worth fighting for,

But I’d already lost something,

And then I lost a whole lot more.

Blurry muted human body,

A lucid dream by force.

Monster creations we've been plotting.

It’s like heaven, but worse.

It's like heaven, but worse.

I can open my eyes now,

I can move around free.

I've become the spider somehow,

There's venom in my teeth.

Could, should, bite.

Feed off of life.

Promises, promises,

All that haunts vessels,

But I already know the curse,

It's like heaven, but worse.

It's like heaven, but worse.

@Torean 💗 I have issues understanding deep poetry, sorry 😕 but it's sounds like a kind of nightmare.  It was very beautifully written though 💖 you have a great way with words 💖 hugs you tightly 💖 I love you 💗

hugsss. I love you too! ❤️❤️. And thank you! 😁

Heh, this one wasn't necessarily written to be understood at face value. It is directly regarding a messed up event that happened to me, but I write poems about lots of that stuff. It's almost 20 years after said event took place though, and it kinda weirded me out when I realized that I never even really tried to write about this one. It came out very abstract, which is good, otherwise I'd have had to throw a bunch of TW on it... 😅

@Torean

I love this! Stumbled upon it while looking for something else.

It gives me sensations of derealisation. Lately life seems kind of like a dream, kind of like heaven but worse. I'm quite happy with the feeling, especially considering the realisation I had (pun?)

Existence may develop its realness, and have ebbs and flows like everything else seems to have. There may be periods where things aren't real, and periods where things are too real. Why doesn't it bother me? Because in the contrast there is meaning. It's like you can't appreciate happiness without sadness. You can't appreciate reality without unreality.

Just my thoughts, I often feel wildly off base!

Thank you! 😁

Derealization and dreamlike is definitely part of what I was going for, so you're definitely not wildly off base.

You know, I feel like you're right, sometimes things feel more real in some chapters. It kinda reminds me of when I was on one particular antidepressant, I remember nothing whatsoever from those few months, but the time before that was way too real. And I feel like you're right about the other part too. By that logic, maybe reality is balanced by actual dreams when we're asleep, and that would actually make a lot of sense.

@Torean

I was on a medication that turned everything into a forgettable dream for 10 years... so I relate! Sorry you had the experience friend.

Perhaps there is hidden meaning in the absurdity of dreams, hence our desire to interpret them. Their contrast to reality may be *the* meaning though, a way for our brains to go "see? That was unreal. Appreciate what is!". This is all hunch and guess though. I know I'm relieved when I wake into reality from a bizarre dream or nightmare. Nature is a scientist, an artist, a poet, a philosopher. I'm only just starting to appreciate its beauty.

And there is so much beauty in your writing! Very natural.

Oh man, I'm sorry you had that experience too. That's a really, really long time...

I kinda feel that way too, but I wonder just what makes reality more real than dreams. Consciousness and memory, sure, but the dream world seems to matter for more than just themes to apply to our life.. that said, I used to have nightmares a lot, but the new "nightmares" are the dreams where everything turned out ok in the past, and certain people are still by my side.

Nature is indeed all of those things, and we can barely scratch the surface at best. And thank you once again 😁 you actually partially inspired a different poem with what you were saying. Maybe it'll be worth posting.

Wow!!@Torean,  this poem reads like a lucid dream unraveling into a nightmare—eerie, poignant and laced with existential ache. The repetition of - It’s like heaven, but worse- hits like a quiet scream, anchoring the reader in that liminal space between longing and dread. A hauntingly beautiful descent. I loved the poem as a whole but the verses that truly gripped me were - I've become the spider somehow, There's venom in my teeth. Could, should, bite. Feed off of life — they carry such quiet power and transformation, chilling yet strangely empowering (in a chilling, existential way...It’s got that Hunger Games survival-at-all-costs energy—I should k!ll you just to stay alive but I dont know if I should even though I can )

Thank you! 😁 I love the way you worded that, you could review these professionally. Also, really appreciate the feedback. It's starting to feel like I really did something right. From my standpoint, the way you describe the emotions of it draws a very interesting similarity with the emotions of what this poem is about in a literal sense.
