I Seen it on the TV
***The poem below is about the absurdity of internalizing truth in what we see in the general mainstream, including that which divides us. I feel like it could come across as confusing or offensive, and the former is fair, but I'm definitely not trying to offend anyone. I purposely wrote this using a Southern dialect, because one side of my family talks in that style, and I've been at odds with the things they try to tell me for most of my life. I hope you enjoy, and hope this disclaimer explains some things! That said, I had to spend close to an hour chopping this up... The original version wasn't near as PG, so if it doesn't fully add up, that's probably why.

I Seen it on the TV
Didn't y'all seen God there on the TV?
Did you recognize?
Sittin' on a loveseat that don't love you back,
Son, you gotta learn to change your channel different.
Ain't nothin' fancy, ain't nothin' fancy,
And probably better if it ain't.
Probably better if it ain't.
Say again,
You us-and-them salesman,
Say again,
You hivemind stuntman.
They show it to you twice,
It's significant.
They show it to you a third,
It's propaganda and a spanking.
Son, I'm-a whoop you senseless,
My kids eat it everyday,
Like processed meat byproduct,
It's where we take all our defective garbage to sell it.
Giant belt buckles alone don't keep your pants up,
And you think that you know what's best.
For every story you never wrote,
And every lesson you never learned.
Thought they were clever,
Having the deaf build the next phallic Tower.
Yeah, some of us can read signs,
But those of us who do,
Know there was a universal language we were left with all along.
Violence.
I know it's real,
I seen it on the TV.
Son, you gotta learn to change your channel different.
@Torean I think it's about all the crap people sells you and what society leads you to believe, I'll see if I can look the poem up💖 thanks for sharing this with us 💖 I love you 💗

I get this feeling too. Like our perspective is somewhat fragile and forced. That there needs to be fluidity, because otherwise it will lead to violence and breakdown. That one should think independently.
I really like the poem! I wish I had more to say on it but I feel it strikes hard at a specific problem.
I'm still learning how to interpret and review poetry. It's a very diverse and deep thing.
