why did you rest rabbit? the race was the only thing they loved about you.
"your overconfidence made the tortoise win"
the rabbit's ears buzzed with their words
and so, it wondered
was it pride that caused him to pause,
or the weight of running a race he never had the choice to refuse?
was he chasing a breath that had left him long ago?
like a candle still burning but melting its core.
or maybe something else
but does it really matter anymore?
they carved his name in motion,
but never asked if he wanted to move
so he sprinted, he ran, he never looked back
for they told him who he was, before he even had the chance to ask.
tell me, is it silly to want to rest?
tell me, for he didn't win, will he still belong?
"slow and steady wins the race"
but the tortoise never ran to win
he walked a path that was his alone,
never weighed down by the hunger to be first.
no cheers, no pressure, no one reminding him
that he must win for he was born to.
no finish line that burned if he walked instead,
no story to tell if the rabbit hadn’t bled.
the rabbit, oh,
they hung medals like a leash on his throat,
called it his crown, called it his hope
but the day he rested, they asked why he left them behind,
never cared about what was trapped in his mind.
they told him, he was made for the run,
that to stop was to disappoint.
that to stop was to be forgotten.
so run, rabbit, run
get up, don't rest, run
run away or they'll curse you of being ordinary
run away for stillness is not a part of your story.
run till you bleed, they don't care you're tired
the moment you stop, you're nothing but expired.
don’t slow down, they only love those who obey.
run till you reach the finish line
and look, it's still a long way.
but what if the finish line is never the end,
but just the place where they stopped watching?
and if love waits only at the finish line's view,
then tell me, was it ever even true?
@suu1309 such a creative take on the story💖 and so sad to know that's the truth for so many. Beautifully written 💗💗 gives you a giant tiny hug 💗
@Tinywhisper11 thank youu much so you beautiful soul. i appreciate your words a lot<3
@suu1309 aahh, my keyboard seems upset. *thank youu so much<3
@suu1309 💖💖💖
@suu1309 THIS IS BRILLIANT!! ...turning a childhood fable into an existential crisis for the poor rabbit (and poor some of us)! The way you explore the weight of expectations, the pressure to keep running and the haunting question of whether the finish line even matters * standing ovation *
Honestly.... this makes me want to sit the rabbit down, hand them a cup of tea and say "Buddy, you don’t have to run just because they told you to" This isn't just a poem. It's a reflection of how society treats ambition, burnout and the conditional nature of approval. It leaves a lingering ache and I love that. You’ve captured something profound here—something that demands to be felt. * bows *
@azurePond i can't pour it in words how good you made me feel friend. your words are too kind for me that lame me can't even express my gratitude through speech. heavy thoughts, burdened mind, constraining chain of expectations, the "constant" pressure to excel, all of these things just came out in the poem. and all i could think of, was the rabbit really arrogant to rest? maybe, he was just tired. thank you azure, i adore you a lot. loads of love<3
@azurePond i too wish i could have a conversation with the rabbit, the rabbit that seemingly develops in all of us through childhood, through adolescence. something we unconsciously accept, the race we never wish to run but we are forced into, because that's what the society calls as life. i wish i could hug that rabbit for once, tell him, "i understand you, it's not your fault".
@suu1309 I feel that.... we’re all just rabbits.... running and running… but somehow even when we stop, the rest we were promised never really comes. We feel guilty for resting and we torture ourselves so for it. Atleast the rabbit in the story got a good nap! Honestly... we are just tired rabbits trying to keep going....
Thank you for your kind words. I adore you too. *big, tight hugs *❤️
@suu1309 oh. Ive never read such a take on this, and yet its seems so natural. You did a really great job. Like, how are you not a world famous poet? 👏👏
@unassumingEyes OMG. gosh gosh gosh, you flew me to sky with your heavenly words. but no no, im nowhere like those world famous poets. im just one adult teenager who saw so much in her life since childhood that she pours out her pain, her frustration through poetry. it's an escapism you see. but still, im deeply humbled by your kind words, thank youu you angel.<3
@suu1309 the best poems come straight from the heart. Pure anger, pure pain, pure happiness- all are very beautiful. And youve molded them with skill that would make any adult poet jealous
Wishing you happier days 🫶
