Untitled

Through the void your beauty echos, like ripples in a stream.

To wish that I could stand before you, a hopeless, distant dream.

In the darkness, lost and lonely, you brought me back to life.

Yet the weight of circumstances, cuts through me like a knife.

Never will I feel your warmth, nor will I bask there in your light.

Alone here, trapped in shadows, a prisoner in an endless night.

I wish for you only happiness,

I hope for all your joys to grow.

I pray the world treats you kindly,

And returns the love you show.

You are a rare and precious treasure, a truly caring being.

As you go on, please remember,

You deserve the best in everything.

@DRHerrington

Love your style and gentle exploration of such deep emotions. I have to also admit, on a personal level, hearing the author read out their own work is always so pleasing (and the fact that timbre of your voice is so soothing adds even more to the atmosphere). *Thinks I may very well have to listen more to those poems for their ASMR qualities too when needing to relax*

It is really great being able to experience more of your work. Thank you for sharing it, and I hope there will be more to come.

Thanks for sharing a piece of you in your poetry.

I really like it.

Reading someone else's words gives you a glimpse into a person, but hearing it from them gives it greater meaning.

I feel like if you wrote a book I wouldn't wanna read the contents I'd prefer the narrated audiobook from you as you have a soothing voice hahahaha

Keep writing & reciting 😎

I don't know why I bother,

I don't know why I try.

In truth, there is no other,

In truth, alone I cry.

This life has been a prison,

A sentence set in stone.

Everyone I loved is gone,

I'm trapped here all alone.

My heart and soul are shattered,

Pieces scattered to the wind.

In truth, I never mattered,

In truth, alone I'll end.

I left my heart wide open,

I poured out all my soul.

I gave up everything I had,

To wind up in this hole.

My life is just a desert,

No one will enter there.

Regardless of how much I hurt,

No one will ever care.

A battered, broken vessel,

On a lonely, storming sea.

Nowhere left to point my sail,

Nowhere will welcome me.

Alone with nothing left to tell,

With nothing left to see,

Nothing left to venture,

Nothing left to gain.

My lifes grand adventure,

A lone prisoner left in pain.

Your poem is very beautiful. It is so bleak and has an unrelenting tempo that feels like a staggering march. The rhyming scheme does not feel forced, and instead gives the poem a sort of repeated chant quality, almost as if the narrator is not listing or describing the situation to the reader l, but rather is saying it to themselves...repeating concepts to convince themselves of the inevitability and finality of their position.

It is a really good poem.

It's cold.

The wind howls 'round the door.

I know.

My bones creak as I rise.

It's cold.

My heart cries to the night.

I know.

Pour the tears from my eyes.

It's cold.

Why do the good suffer in pain.

Be strong.

Whispers wisdom in vain.

It's wrong.

My heart pleads to my soul.

I know.

My mind wonders alone.

I've seen.

I know all the ways the winding roads lead.

Everywhere else then right back to me.

It's a cycle. It happens time and again.

It hurts,

That pain shows we're strong.

Only the weak aren't disturbed by the wrong.

It's true.

My soul comforts my heart.

I'm old.

This I've known from the start.

I'm here.

You're not in this alone.

Too many hearts they give in.

If you give up on good, then the evil will win.

If you close off yourself to keep out the cold.

You're robbing the world of the warmth that you hold.

I'm tired.

My heart cries out again

It hurts.

I just want it to end. I've lost count of how many times I have tried.

I have nothing to give, there's nothing inside.

I gave all I had but it wasn't enough.

I'm here.

I lack the strength to get up.

heart, soul, and mind, a tempest deliver.

I'm here,

All alone, the calm in the center.
