Do you think this will be enough?

I can give you the crumpled pages of Borges’s poetry,
Adorned with coffee rings from mornings I spent
Searching for meaning in his mazes,
The edges torn from the pages I never dog-eared,
As though I feared folding the space around me.

I can give you the torn ticket from a metro,
I took in New Delhi,
Its corners tired from the long journey,
The one where I sat by the window,
And made small talk with a girl
About the "Heat Dome Effect" and Golgappas.

I can give you the hours I spent lost in White Nights,
Walking under the rain, listening to Dostoevsky,
My mind echoing with stories and analysis
I’ve never told anyone
.
I can give you the cracked vinyl of a song
You’ve never heard,
Its melody warped by time,
But with a rhythm that pulls at your chest
As if it’s always been yours.

I can give you the map I never unfolded,
The one that shows a place I might visit
But never get to—
Somewhere between Lisbon and Porto,
Where time moves just a little differently.

I can give you the rose I never picked,
Left to grow wild
On the side of a forgotten road,
Back in my homeland,
Its petals soft but fading,
Like the promise of something I once loved.

I can give you the Polaroid of a night in the Bolivian salt pans,
Where the water held the sky like a broken promise,
The reflection of the moon, a thousand versions of itself.

I can give you the grainy copy of a Godard film
That always made me feel like I was
Both too young and too old to understand,
But it was always you I wanted to watch it with.

I can give you the hours spent in the silent chaos of—
Airports, railway stations, and buses
Waiting to take me somewhere I’ve never been,
But hoping you’d be beside me wherever I arrive.

I can give you the pages of a journal I kept
During the year I tried to forget who I was,
Each word a reflection of a road not yet taken,
But I still have the map.

I can give you my fleeting moments of solitude,
The ones where I sat atop, near the edge of a tower
Watching people and traffic move in slow motion,
Wondering if anyone else ever felt this small
And this alive at once.

I can give you enchanted hugs that hold you like water,
Where your mind feels weightless,
Even as you struggle to breathe,
Lulling you into a dreamlike hush,
A suffocating calm of depths cradling your soul.

I can give you tissue papers stained with poetry,
Trivia knowledge that you'll never use anywhere,
Sorrows and desperation of a devotee before an altar,
The hopeful words uttered by a cynic,
I can give you recitations of love that sound foreign on my tongue,
But I will believe it for you,
Because it is you.

I can give you the pieces of me I thought I’d never share,
Because I believe they’re safe with you,
And maybe,
Just maybe,
They’ll be the parts that bring us closer.

@azurePond

That was a very elegant poem. I think it is amazing how you transform and elevate simple mundane mementos into touch-stones of memory. Each one laced with minute details and sensory impressions , as well as touches of personal reflection. We are taken on a whirlwind tour of those long past vistas, but as vicarious observers for this is a piece dedicated to someone important in the narrators life; the one whom they always wanted to watch the Godard film with, the missing presence at those may ports of call. It is a lovingly, non-saccharin and understated ode. Gently romantic, tender, and vulnerable. It was very beautiful.

@azurePond

This is a very beautiful poem Pond, the reader feels like a ghost taken along on a journey to a written cry, one forgotten in a dusty shelf or drawer. It feels so personal yet foreign, like deja vu. It seems to be a refined and tested tale wanting to be told yet hiding away in the heart and on the shelf.

Or perhaps I am completely wrong and my personal experience gives me bias! ;) it was a beautiful read thank you!

@7Bear7  I love how you described it, Bear.... as a ghost taken along on a journey-tucked away in a drawer- that image alone feels like a poem in itself. And no, you're not wrong at all—if anything, I think the fact that it stirred something personal in you means it did its job. That’s all I could ever hope for as a writer. Thank you for reading it so openly🫂

@azurePond wowwww azure. this one is my favourite poem of yours (the perfect-est among all the perfects). oh, how much reading it felt like hearing taylor sing, "don't blame me love, made me crazy. if it doesn't you ain't doing it right." but with the folklore vibe. im left in awe. roop from kalank would've been proud to read it (and so am i).<3

@FernsAndFirelight Hey, this is Su, right? Long time no see.... how have you been?

The fact that you felt a folklore vibe ?? Honestly, that’s the highest compliment ever. I do think the poem has that mirrorball and peace kind of energy from folklore, and maybe a hint of New Year’s Day from reputation too.  also you said Don't blame me.
And Roop from Kalank...  is that a book or a series?
Thank you, truly, for reading it with such heart. It means a lot.

@azurePond heyy, yess it's me. had been caught with studies so didn't get time. im doing really fine, how's you!

ohh yeah, mirrorball. damn, you got the right one. and ahh, kalank is a movie and roop's the female protagonist, and your poem is just a mirror of her feelings throughout. this was awesome<3

@FernsAndFirelight heyy Suu!! so good to hear it’s really you haha... and no worries at all, I totally get how studies can take over everything. glad to hear you’re doing well! I’m doing good too :))

YASS MIRRORBALL!! and thank you for explaining about Kalank and Roop — I actually ended up googling it after reading your comment. I haven’t seen the movie and I don’t think it’s on Ne.tflix here... but I have watched Dear Life... love that one so much!

@azurePond yessss yesss. dear zindagi sometimes feels like a reflection to me. like if matilda song by harry styles could've been a film, it'd surely be dear zindagi. im so pleased to know you loved it. i did too. yayyy<3

@FernsAndFirelight Ooh yes... Matilda really suits Kaira. I loved the Mt Everest analogy in the film ... how sometimes choosing  the easiest path is actually the best one for you. And Im so glad they didnt turn it into a typical rom com. The whole time I was practically yelling at the screen- Please dont make Dr Jug fall for her... And they didn’t -  which was perfect. But I also loved that the chair creaked at the end… because it only creaks when you like someone and know you can’t do anything about it!

@azurePond yesss. we often think that to reach the destination we have to choose the tougher route. but it's okay to choose the easy one too. because it's simply easy. and yes, that chair creaking and dr jug putting eye drops in his eyes as if he was afraid he'd let a tear fall, so beautiful it all was.
