Death's finger
drills a hole through my head as we speak
or don't speak
no sleep
no reply.
We clung to each other
like children screaming in the night.
My problem to your problem to my problem
and yet for all the reassurance
we can't help
we can't heal
love isn't enough.
There are so many miles
between us
and that Old Country of hard-won dawns
secrets giggled in purple
curling next to you in bed.
We hold each other now
as ghosts on pedestals-
or at least, I do.
I spun through the night for you
avoided reflections
let you squeeze me like a safety blanket.
I want to ressurect you.
You aren't enough.
And I'm too much.
