Time to Be Alone

Here are 14 signs you need to take some time alone:

  1. You feel overwhelmed or stressed out, and you have difficulty concentrating or completing tasks.
  2. You feel burnt out or exhausted.
  3. You have a lack of motivation or energy.
  4. You have difficulty sleeping.
  5. You have a short temper or are easily agitated.
  6. You feel a lack of connection with others.
  7. You feel like you are constantly on the go and never have time for yourself.
  8. You feel like you are constantly giving to others and not taking care of yourself.
  9. You feel like you don't have any personal hobbies or interests.
  10. You feel like you are constantly being pulled in different directions.
  11. You feel like you are losing touch with yourself or your sense of identity.
  12. You feel like you don't have control over your own life.
  13. You feel like you are constantly bombarded with stimuli and can't escape.
  14. You feel like you are not living the life you want to live.

Balance Yourself

Too much time alone can lead to loneliness and isolation, which can negatively impact mental health. On the other hand, social interaction and connection with others can be important for maintaining good mental health and well-being.

It is also important to be mindful of the context in which we are alone. For example, being alone in a supportive, safe environment can be very different from being alone in a threatening or uncomfortable situation. It is important to make sure that being alone is a positive, intentional choice rather than a result of feeling isolated or unsupported."

Oof yes, many relatable signs here!

Alone time is a necessity for me, it really is needed to unplug from the world sometimes and set aside some time for self, even if it's to stare blankly at the ceiling! 😊❤

@comfortableNight4463 I relate to every single one of these signs. Especially since my mom passed away in July. She used to do pretty much everything for my stepdad and everyone else (especially my stepdad) and my stepdad is always coming to me now, basically turning me into a substitute or replacement for my mom. I don't handle things as well as she did or in the same ways. I'm slower at processing things too and struggle to find words/communicate my thoughts verbally.

I'm not in the right place, mentally or otherwise to give advice or do some of the things my stepdad needs. I don't have a lot of "adulting" skills/life experience (I was sheltered and my bio dad was abusive so I never fully learned how to function), though I don't have a low IQ either. I also have Asperger's, Social Anxiety Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, ADHD, depression, PTSD, and chronic pain and fatigue among other things. I'm 36. My brother and my stepdad have health issues too (brother is autistic, functionally about 8 to 10-ish despite being 24 and has learning disabilities, stepdad is epileptic). I don't wanna be a caregiver again like I had to be for Mom when she was sick (and before that, 2 grandmothers and my grandfather at different times) and I'm not a therapist, but I feel like I have no say in it and that I'm not even a person anymore, but a robot. Only emotional support I have around here is my cat Dragon but he can only do so much. The rest of my family is telling me to keep helping everyone and stay strong when I just need time and space for myself to grieve properly and deal with my own health issues and the toxic positivity crap that they're dumping on me is making me feel worse. It invalidates my true emotions and makes me feel shamed for having them.

There's only 3 of those 14 that don't apply to me. Looks like I need to get away and be alone for a while. Wished I could take a trip alone someplace relaxing... 😊
