Journaling: How and Why You Should Start NOW
“Often, we struggle with the uncertainty of everything, what we want to do, where we want to go, or even how we are feeling in general.
It may seem like a quick task but writing your thoughts down can actually help you come up with some answers to those questions that appear as you live your life. As you put things down that are bothering you on paper and start to expand on the subject you will start to get a better sense of why those thoughts are appearing and what they mean.
There are many ways to start journaling. You can begin by following some prompts that you can come up with yourself or find all over the internet such as:
What am I struggling with the most right now?
What am I grateful for?
Who are the people that are nourishing me the most?
There is a specific time of the day where I feel anxious, Why? Etc.
You could also just start writing whatever comes to mind at the moment.
Figuring yourself out through paper, writing therapy, journaling or however you want to call it, should be a moment of the day that’s dedicated to you and your mental health, even if it’s five minutes or 30, a moment dedicated to your self improvement is never a waste of time.”

✨Takeaway: Even if it diverges from the initial topic, try to open up your mind and let it wander wherever it feels like going since there might be an answer there. The more you write every day, the easier it will get. Committing to this discipline may be challenging at first, but practice makes perfect.
✨Reflection: If you journal, how often do you write in it? If you don’t journal, what’s stopping you from journaling?

I keep several journals and write on them every day, multiple times a day. I don't particularly enjoy it anymore, it's more one of those routines that I have to have with my disabilities and all.
@OneErased
Oh interesting!
Are they all for different reasons?
I'm sorry to hear you don't find enjoyment in them anymore!💛💫
@innateJoy9602 I used to journal a lot when I was younger. It helped me a lot in my mindfulness and self-reflection. I manged to see things from a different perspective and manage my issues as a teenager. I don't know why I stopped. I think that I thought it wasn't doing anything so I had to stop to see a difference. I'm already practicing some mindfulness exercises and breathing techniques while journaling regularly is my next goal! Thank you for the inspiring post!

I used to journal, but these days I really enjoy reading books before going to sleep. I find that it sort of has the same function, really allowing you to think a little bit with imagination and reflecting on certain parts of life through the context of the book.
Thanks for posting this article! When something makes me upset, I like to write down what happened and how I felt about it as a way to reflect on where my upset-ness came from. Just deconstructing and articulating the event helps me to calm down and make sense of what happened. It can also be interesting to read what I wrote a while later, as sometimes, that thing that made me so upset stops affecting me as much as time passes. It's a nice reminder that something that feels so terrible now may not feel so terrible in the future.
I really appreciate this thread, exactly what I needed.
Am in a pickle, a few years ago my parents found and read my diary. They had their reasons and concerns however this has since been a barrier stopping me, despite now living alone. Any tips onto overcome this would be appreciated.
It’s terrible to have our boundaries broken!
I am very sorry for that!
Maybe it will help to begin writing mundane stuff! For instance, what you had to eat, what you did today, the weather, etc. Then, work your way up to more intimate/emotional things!
You can always look at getting a journal with a lock on it as well! 💛💫
Thanks for your response and support. Great ideas xx
