Hi Heather, I hope the special event was a great success. My infusion took longer than I expected so I didn't get to make it to the group chat. But I wanted to participate as best as I can be answering the questions on the agenda.
2023 (personal and/or Cups)
Share a positive moment or achievement from this year that you’re proud of.
I think that by far the achievement that I am the most proud of this year is learning how to navigate a visual world as a blind/low vision person. I had no idea just how hard it is to learn to do everything different when you lose a vital sense such as vision or hearing until I was faced with losing my vision in May of this year.
What are some things you are grateful for from this year?
I am grateful for my family and friends who have been incredibly supportive as I have faced with my vision loss with grace. Having their support has been crucial to my success learning to live independently with very little vision left.
How has being part of the 7 Cups community enriched your year?
7 cups has really enriched my life this year. I didn't realize just how hard it is to go on a medical leave from a job I love for a long period of time. When I went on medical leave in July, I felt like I lost my sense of purpose. And 7 cups has helped fill in the purpose that I felt like I lost. I can't do everything I would like to do on 7 cups, but the volunteers and team leaders are always supportive in helping me to achieve my 7 cups goals. I am very grateful that during a difficult time in my life, I have 7 cups to help fill a big void.
2024 finish the sentence challenge:
In 2024 I would like to… access resources for people who are low vision and/or blind. I have yet to do this because I'm hopeful that my vision may still come back and I don't want to take those community resources away from someone who KNOWS their vision loss is permanent. My goal is to reach out to my local organization for the blind after the first of the year.
To do this, I need to… Pick up the phone. It's really not that hard. All I have to do is pick up the phone and ask them what resources are available and decide which resources I need now and which resources I want to hold off on.
I make a special holiday treat. chex mix with peanut butter, chocolate, and powdered sugar. Here's some to share with you. I call it puppy chow, although my puppies can't have any because of the chocolate. :)
Hi Kristy! Thank you so much for sharing here about your 2023 and hopes for 2024. I am thankful too that you found 7cups.com as you have already been a positive light and helpful guide. on all of 7cups but especially in the Grief & Loss sections.
I hear you too on how you mentioned about "It's only a phone call" and "But there may be others that need that service more than I do." I agree. It is not fun to admit to yourself or then decide that I need help with this (blank). It is lots of transition for you. Since May 2023 and still through, so you'll call them on Tuesday, January 2nd, right? (wink) (love) (hug)
I will write to you more in one to one note. Again, thank you for sharing your accomplishments and your goals too. And of course, (dot) (dot) (dot)
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
(heart) (hug) (hug) from Platy

@Heather225 and Community Team - Thank you for hosting this event!!
I was glad I could attend. Merry Christmas to all! 🎄 and God bless you in the New Year! (Platy tosses glitter and confetti) (Platy blows noise maker 🎉 woohoo!) Happy New Year! A lovely time to begin again.
Note to Self: Decide on a Planner for 2024 and get it purchased! If I order it soon enough, it might even come before Dec 31 😮 ! What a thought, eh? haha. <3 Platy
