Write a Letter to Yourself: 7 Cups Style

As the year winds down and we start looking towards the fresh possibilities of 2024, I've been thinking about the power of intention. What if, before we dive into resolutions and to-do lists, we take a moment to pause and connect with ourselves?

That's where the idea of writing a letter to your future self comes in. You may have done this before at some point in your life. It's a simple yet profound concept: writing a letter to your future self is a way to capture your hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the future. It allows you to reflect on your goals and priorities and provides a concrete reminder of what you want to achieve. It's like sending a message to your future self, reminding you of what matters most and providing inspiration and motivation to keep going. It's a powerful way to stay on track and hold yourself accountable.

It can also just be fun and lighthearted too! Your letter is what you make of it. The key is that you write something you'll find value in rereading later.

This isn't about fortune-telling or setting expectations. It's a chance to acknowledge your journey so far and plant seeds for the future you want to cultivate. When you revisit your letter, you might be surprised by how much you've grown and changed. You might find strength in your past words and clarity in your future aspirations.

Here are some prompts if you need ideas on where to start:

✨What are you most grateful for right now?

What are your biggest challenges or worries?

What dreams do you want to keep burning brightly?

What advice would you give your future self?

How do you want to feel on December 27th, 2024?

Now here's the special part: You'll submit your letter via this form. I'll store your letter securely and send it back to you on a date of your choosing.

There's no due date for this. Write whatever whenever and most importantly don't overthink it!

Please reply to this post when you’ve written your letter! Feel free to share excerpts from your letters (anonymously, of course!) if you're comfortable for our community to enjoy and find common themes!

@Heather225 done, if it is a problem I set it for 2027, just mail it to me whenever you had enough of holding onto it for me

a little excerpt on my last 3 points:

What dreams do I want to keep on burning bright? Stay true to yourself in this crazy world. Listen to your heart and go where it takes you. It is your life, and you have only one shot at it. So experience it the way YOU want it to be. I hope the family is all well and healthy, and that maybe you have now one of your own. I hope you stayed on the right path, even if it is difficult sometimes.

What advice would I give you? I worked hard for you to be where you are at right now, so don´t *** it up. Also, keep working hard for future you, but don´t forget to enjoy the moment.

How do I want to feel on Dec. 27, 2024? Well. Good, obviously. And so do I want to feel about the time when I open this letter again. Be surrounded with family, cozy and happy. And remember the time younger me was writing this letter with warmth and gratitude towards this version of me, who really tried her best. I hope you are having an amazing Christmas, and remember, no matter what happens, we got this. Sending a lot of love from me to you and a warm hug. No matter where you are at right now, I love you. Take care. And I hope you too remember me with love.

@Heather225 done! I set it to december 25, 2024 so I get a little extra Christmas present ^^

Something I told myself in the letter was to not worry if something doesn't go as planned, it might even turn out to be for the better! For example, two years ago I was rejected from the Computer Science program at my uni (which was then my dream to get into), but I did get accepted into the Statistics program. I was super sad at the time and had no idea what to do, but 2 years later I'm enjoying my stats classes even more than the computer science ones I took in first year, and also doing much better in them! My new dream is to be a data scientist and I'm currently super excited about it! So don't give up if things don't go perfectly, you might even end up being glad that they didn't!

Dear Future Self,

I am working towards managing my maladaptive behaviours and beliefs with healthier options. Do not put pressure on yourself to do this just know if you continue to practice the good behaviours they will become the new normal overtime.

@Heather225 yeah maybe. I just confused with life and the future I tried to write it, twice actually. But I just can't seem to do it.
