Welcome to another post celebrating the values practiced at 7 Cups, in honor of our 10th birthday!

7 Cups is celebrating a decade of mental health support. At 7 Cups, we strive to empower individuals to lead mentally resilient lives. Our focus is on alleviating distress, in addition to personal growth and flourishing through different therapeutic interactions and activities on the platform that are based on the latest evidence-based methods.

Grit is a powerful mindset that enables individuals to persevere in the face of adversity, bounce back from failures, and stay committed to their goals.

Grit is a term coined by psychologist Angela Duckworth, who defines it as "passion and perseverance for long-term goals." It encompasses traits like resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth. Individuals with grit are not easily discouraged by setbacks and are willing to put in the necessary effort to achieve their goals.

At 7 Cups, your journey may start with a chat with either a listener or peers in a group, but it doesn’t end there. You are invited to set different goals and pursue them while exploring the community and growing through the different platform features.

To cultivate grit, it is essential to develop a growth mindset. This mindset allows us to view challenges as opportunities for learning and growth rather than as roadblocks. By adopting a growth mindset, we can better navigate difficulties and maintain our motivation in the face of setbacks.

  1. Building a gritty mindset begins with self-awareness. Recognize your strengths, passions, and values to determine what truly matters to you. This self-awareness will serve as your compass, guiding you through difficult times.

  1. Additionally, practicing positive self-talk can help foster a gritty mindset. Replace self-limiting beliefs and negative thoughts with empowering and encouraging statements. Remind yourself of your past achievements and the progress you have made, even in the face of adversity. Self-compassion is also crucial during challenging times, as it allows us to be kind to ourselves and treat ourselves with the same care and understanding we would extend to a friend.

  1. Grit is closely tied to setting meaningful and challenging goals aligned with our passions and values. When setting goals, ensure they are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART goals). Break larger goals into smaller, manageable steps to maintain focus and momentum.

  2. Obstacles and failures are inevitable on the journey to success. Reflect on what went wrong, extract lessons from the experience, and adjust your approach accordingly.

  3. Maintaining resilience is key in navigating obstacles. Practice gratitude to shift your focus towards the positive aspects of your life, seek support from your social network, and engage in self-care activities that rejuvenate you mentally, emotionally, and physically. Building resilience allows you to bounce back stronger and continue moving forward.

Remember, building grit is a continuous process that requires practice, patience, and self-compassion. Together, let's cultivate the mindset and skills necessary to overcome obstacles, achieve success, and thrive in all areas of our lives.

Life feels easier when you treat it as a game. Every challenge will lead to an godlike opportunity. That's my way of cultivating grit.

Two years I experienced career burnout. A year ago I found out I have been living with high functioning Autism. Autism has made me a caring and empathic person. I have a lot of grits in me already. Life is getting better.

That's a powerful mindset and I agree, that's great! It helps to make things worth doing.😊

As many career burnouts go, most of them cause major disruptions with much despair. To be able to pull out of that in a much more positive place is a blessing indeed. I'm sorry you had to go through that but I'm glad things are getting better. 💚

Keep it up 💪😃
