Taking the (sparkly) high road!
TOLERANCE is the ability or willingness to tolerate the existence of opinions or behaviour that one dislikes or disagrees with.
"the tolerance of an ignorant person"
forbearance, toleration, sufferance, liberality, open-mindedness,lack of prejudice, lack of bias, broad-mindedness, liberalism.

Tolerance is something that we all want, but are not all that great at giving. HOLD UP, did I just say something bad about you? No, I didnt, I promise. But it is true, knowing we should give someone respect and kindness is not the same as managing to uphold these values 24/7. I find it hard, other people find it hard, Obama probably finds it hard. (I use him as an example because I couldnt think of anyone whom is cooler or better than Obama) Who can bet that Obama wants to punch Trump in the mouth sometimes? I can :D (like a million gazillion bags of gold worth)
Considering that Obama wants to punch Trumppitty trump (yup, running with this analogy thingum) BUT hasnt, there must be a reason, yeah? The reason is that Obama is one super TOLERANT guy. Obviously he would enjoy punching people sometimes, but because he knows that will not get him anywhere, and is not showing respect or kindness he doesnt!!!!! I think we should all follow in Obamas steps.
Ergo, as we are all going to follow in the footsteps of Obama (who wouldnt though?) it is now time to tell me when you were last tolerant of someone you didnt really feel like being tolerant of!! *thinks far far back*
I shall start:
A while back in the land we all know so well *sighs dreamily* PM land. I offered to take a chat to help someone with something and somehow the person ended up getting VERY heated with me and not so happy. They actually used some pretty meaniepoo words, words that people who AREN'T tolerant of other religions or races would use. So me being the sparkly wonderplatter of love that I am, I told them that:
"I was very sorry they felt so much hate and that if they ever wanted some support when they were in a less angry frame of mind, I would be happy to help them, but that I was not here to be insulted."
And then, I gave them some resources and ended the chat. NOW. What I wanted to do was to call them a blonkytack-flibbetyjibbet and to tell them all about why anti-semitism is wrong. PARTLY because it gives you an affiliation to Hitler - but maybe some would want that? :P But the fact that I refrained from those things, means that I took the high road, I am the bigger person, and it is also very important to remember that HATE INCITES HATE. On that day. I broke that cycle just a teeny weeny bit. Meaning hopefully, that little person who was a stinkysocks to me, will learn that saying those things wont get them attention or make me act in the way he thought I should because of my religion (that isnt even my religion by they way xD). #winning

@amazingrea, I think this is a very important topic to talk about! Tolerance is probably one of the few things I've noticed be swept under the rug consistently.
The fact of the matter is, we each have grown up in our own environments, and our beliefs and values are a product of mainly how we were raised (surely, it does depend on the person). There has been an increasing amount of tolerance, it's just not being talked about very often. A somewhat-national example of this (I'm from the United States) is LGBT rights, namely marriage equality. In the past couple of years, marriage equality has been enacted, and people like Caitlyn Jenner have come out, and there's been an increasing amount of... Acceptance. Tolerance. Homophobia still exists, but I've seen many people in my little conservative part of the nation (one of which I am not involved in) actually understand and tolerate people being gay.
On a personal note, the last thing I had to be tolerant towards was when a customer at my job was mean to me over something that wasn't my fault. That's not toleration in the traditional sense, but I mean it in a way that I listened to them, I accepted what they had to say. If you're not a tolerant person, these kinds of things are hard to do, because the first instinct would be to fight. But instead, I assumed that there was something else going on with the customer that I had no control over, and by the end, they were laughing and smiling. I'd like to say tolerance isn't something I lack; I talk to people daily that have different beliefs than me, and I do so with an open heart because that's what I would expect or want from them, you know? Treat others the way you'd want to be treated.
But I think I really would have liked to see Obama punch Trump. That would probably have been pretty rad.
@Cadence
I entirely agree, we have made great strides with things like tolerance and acceptance! And I absolutely love how you assume they are behaving due to something out of their control, if someone is annoying me a lot, I make up a story about what happened so that I can empathise just that little bit more <3 Fight all with kindness
It would have been really rad - alas there is still time!
* sighs deeply * 👽 you silly thingum Rea bae baeee ♥ You aught to know aliens are rather intolerant most times , or they just have awful memories ( they really do actually :P ) ! So either I'm never tolerant or I am incapable of remembering anything ! Cause , * sheepishly stares at feet * I have NO clue when the last time was ! I mean , if you would count tolerating my evil bunnies behaviour then I'm tolerant every single day of my life D: ♥ He really is a meaniepoo brat to me most of the time but I always forgive him ! Like when he nips me to get attention or when he grunts at me cause he's anoyed I can never get angry with him ! Besides , he always licks my clothes or arms afterwards to apologise so I can't be annoyed , he's so sweet ♥ Anyways , that's probably not real tolerance XD so now's for something more serious ! I was very tolerant with my some of my family a whike ago . Cause they were being ADGHFJKLS and making fun of my bestest friend ♥ So after staying super cucumber coolio calm as I could and asking them politely not too ( I didn't even start a fight like I normally would XD ) and after defending and standing up for my friend to my bestest ability , they still didn't stop , so's I just used all my alien 👽 energy and ignored what they were saying as best as I could ! That's happened a more than once too . It was ickkity , specially cause it was about my best friend but I managed to control my rather uncontrollable temper at least . And it seems that even the meaniest of meaniepoos will stop saying things like that if one manages to ignore them . NOT EASY TO DO THOUGH !!! but anyways XD I thought that your Obama and trumpy example was AWESOME !!! ♥ I can almost find some respect for them in my cold alien heart now :P ♥ And your tolerance with that member was FANTABULOUS Rea baeee !!! ♥
@ih0pe
soooo colourful. :O
@SilentSerenityy
Awww thankies XD ! It's usually something I go slightly crazy with :P ♥
@ih0pe
It looks pretty though. I appreciate the effort. :P
@ih0pe
Mhmm, bunnies make us tolerant whether we like it or not! Mollymoon, well done for being tolerant with your fam, family can be sooooo annoying and they think they know le stuff *shakes head* sillymoos, huh? But you did the alien snazzytastic thing and tried! And it sounds like you succeeded, so BAE. I am glad you liked my Trummpity thing! <3
Birdyhun, I LOVE this post.
I was last tolerant towards my homophobic uncle. He visited a weekend ago, and decided to harp on about how to cure homosexuality amongst other ~pleasant~ topics like chocolate and cheesecake. That's his idea of dinnertime conversation. Its the people like him who keep me from coming out. I want to scream my lungs out at him. Because I'll never let myself even enter one of those rehab camps. You can't change who I am. I felt insufficient on that day and totally obliterated by the fact that within my own family there is no respect for my sexuality. Who I am. I couldve locked myself in the bathroom and cried about it. I could make a huge fuss about it as well. There are so many dramatic reactions I couldve (and probably would've) had. But, as you've been repeatedly stating in your amazing thread, I took the high road- I tolerated his poorly and disrespectfully expressed religious views, because his veiws are his veiws for a reason. Sure he was trying to impose them on all of us, but I was stronger than that (or should I say Bi was stronger than that. Hehe.) I respectfully debated against him on the issue (which was hard to do- I wanted to punch him hard on the nose) and eventually we reached a stalemate about it.
Thank you for the lovely amazing thread my birdy <3
@NewRomantic677
Enobeano,
Every time you say things, I am exceedingly proud to be your friend. Your uncle has some very suckkity views, but the fact that you managed not to scream at him for thinking silly stuffs is very very amazing. And I think it shows how awesome you are at taking a step back from the situation to think about thing - which is a darn fine quality! And, even though your debate reached a stalemate, there is no way that he could have gone away without learning some new things. Perhaps he is yet to see how right you are, but he must have heard what you said to debate, and that is always a good thing. We cannot beat intolerance and hate without some form of peaceful discussion. Thus - you bae maaan,
Thank you for the nice words, and thank you for your wonderful response and amazing act of tolerance!
I have to be very honest about this. I am NOT a very tolerant person. My temper is very short and I have issues managing my emotions. But recently (and I'm proud to share this story), a MIRACLE happened to me! I remembered how much I needed God's help that time, and you know what? He did help me! It was amazing and the most precious moment of my life! And since then, I had been more positive *insert sunshines and rainbows and unicorns here* about my life. I try to understand people, and why they act how they act. I tried tolerating the people who don't seem to understand my point. I tolerated the people who are so ignorant that it makes me wanna *censored bad word* them but I don't 'cause maybe they have their own problems. I tolerate the people who seems to impose their beliefs on me and just politely explain my side. It's HARD, it's like a sudden change of behavior but it's for the better, all because I believed in Him. I'm still working on it, to be honest. I haven't fully tolerated much, I can sometimes be mean but it change doesn't happen in a snap, right? It's a working process, and I think I'm progressing on the high road. :)
