“Don’t Blame the Girl” 🥀
She sits alone beneath the light
Trying to make it through the night
Her parents say it’s all her fault
For every tear and every thought
She whispers softly I’m so tired
Of carrying what they’ve required
She never wanted to hurt anyone
She only wished the pain would run
And she says
Don’t blame the girl who’s falling down
She’s been trying hard to stand her ground
Don’t call her weak for losing sight
She’s been fighting every night
She dreams of somewhere far away
A quiet place beyond today
Where no one asks her why she cries
Where she can rest without disguise
They see the tears but miss the pain
They see the storm and blame the rain
And every word they throw her way
Makes her feel smaller every day
And she says
Don’t blame the girl who’s falling down
She’s been trying hard to turn around
Don’t call her broken let her be
She’s still searching for a way to breathe
Maybe someday she’ll understand
She never had to carry all of that
Maybe someone will hold her near
And tell her she is welcome here
So let the girl put down the blame
Let someone see beyond her pain
She’s more than every scar and tear
She’s still here
She’s still here 🥀🖤
