Forgotten history
Rant:
History is such a strange thing. It is the story of the people before us, their lives where we now use it as a way to learn of the past but how can we believe it’s all true? It’s a known fact that some of history is erased or changed (ex Norse mythology, the burning of the library of Alexandria) but how much of it is the truth? People will change the story to make one side look better than the other, maybe rumors were turned into a false truth, relationships hidden because of the social norms. Perhaps a joke to someone over 100 years ago is told as truth now. This is what I want to know more of; what is the hidden truth of history? How much is real? How much is fake? This is why I love mythology it’s storytelling going from oral to written tales and you can see how they change with the deities, places, timelines it’s all changing. One day I want to see what the true history was and how it was changed.
This is a fascinating topic to me. I also wonder why certain parts of history are erased and often question who it serves to erase it. I often wish history could be set in stone, unalterable, so that we could all know the truth of the past and perhaps learn from it. However, that doesn't seem to be the way time works. For instance, a society of people will only read history from the modern lens they have in their time to read it with. In a way, we project our present onto our past.
