Title: “The Kingdom of Everlight”

Once upon a time, in a land bathed in golden sunlight and perfumed by flowers that never wilted, there lay a kingdom known as Everlight. It was a realm where dreams seemed to come alive, where laughter echoed in the hills and music floated through the air like pollen on the wind. Birds sang lullabies to newborns, and the rivers whispered secrets to those who dared to listen.

At the heart of this radiant kingdom stood a magnificent castle of white marble, glowing with the kiss of dawn. There lived Princess Amara, the only child of King Theron and Queen Lysandra. Amara was beloved not only for her beauty, which rivaled the morning sun, but for her kindness, courage, and a laugh so bright it was said to heal even the weariest heart.

She grew up chasing butterflies in the royal gardens and climbing trees to speak to the whispering winds. Her best friend was a young stable boy named Elias, a boy with eyes the color of stormy skies and a soul full of stories. Despite their different stations, Amara and Elias were inseparable. They shared dreams beneath starlit skies and made promises carved into oak bark that they would always be there for each other.

The kingdom thrived. Crops flourished, people danced in the squares, and every year the skies painted themselves with rainbow hues during the Festival of Lights. It seemed as if nothing could ever darken Everlight.

But as with all things in life, light casts shadows.

One fateful day, a mysterious traveler arrived at the kingdom’s gates. Clad in a cloak darker than midnight and speaking with a voice like cracked ice, she called herself Morwenna. She offered a gift to the King and Queen — a crystal orb said to show one’s deepest desire. Tempted, they peered inside. No one knows what they saw, but from that moment on, fear grew in their hearts like rot in a tree.

They became obsessed with keeping the kingdom safe. The gates were sealed. Foreigners were turned away. Curfews were enforced. Even magic, once celebrated, was outlawed. The once-open hearts of Everlight’s rulers began to close.

Amara tried to speak to them, but they brushed her away with cold eyes. “You are young,” they told her. “You do not understand the world’s dangers.”

She turned to Elias, but he, too, had changed. The boy who once dreamed of faraway lands now worked tirelessly under new, harsh laws. He avoided her gaze and stopped meeting her beneath their tree.

One night, desperate to make sense of it all, Amara snuck into the castle’s tower and found the crystal orb. Inside it, she saw a kingdom on fire, a future consumed by darkness. Her parents, she realized, were trying to prevent this vision — but in doing so, they had already begun to create it.

Horrified, she fled with the orb in hand, seeking out the one person she knew could help — Elias.

But when she found him, he turned her away.

“I cannot help you anymore,” he whispered, eyes full of sorrow. “You are the princess. I am no one. We belong in different worlds.”

Heartbroken, she wandered into the Forbidden Woods, a place whispered of in bedtime stories. There, she met Morwenna again — only now, the cloak had fallen, revealing her true form: an old sorceress, exiled centuries ago by Amara’s ancestors.

“This kingdom feared magic,” she said, “and so they buried it. But you, child, carry the last flame.”

Amara fell to her knees, the crystal orb clutched to her chest. “What do I do? I tried to fix everything, but I failed.”

Morwenna placed a hand on her shoulder. “You must choose, Amara. Save the kingdom by sacrificing yourself… or let it fall to ruin while you run from your fate.”

Amara returned to the castle that night, cloaked in moonlight. The next morning, the people of Everlight awoke to find a strange silence in the air. The crystal orb had shattered. Magic had returned to the land. The gates opened. But Princess Amara was gone.

No one knew where she had gone, though some claimed to see her face in the moonlight or hear her laughter in the wind. Others say she became part of the magic itself, keeping the balance between light and dark.

As for Elias, he became the Keeper of the Grove, tending the tree where he and Amara had once carved their promise. He never married. Never left. Every evening, he sat by the tree and whispered stories to the stars.

The kingdom slowly healed. But it was never as bright as it once was.

And sometimes, in the quietest hours before dawn, the people of Everlight would close their eyes and remember the princess who loved too deeply, the boy who lost her, and the light that came from sorrow.

The End.

Or perhaps… just the beginning of another kind of tale.
