A little confused and feeling guilty

I dated a boy for year and a half. The relationship was very good but ibe day we had a very bad fight trhoug watsaWha, since that day everutyeve changed .He started to fade away while I was trying to fix that and being cheesy and lovely. I was feeling so bad and so guilty, and so disconnected form him. Honestly the last times we had sex was just to feel him close to me and hearing him saying me "I love you". He decided to break up two weeks ago but it wasn't like a break neither a break up and I was so confused so I decided to break up him totally and told him that for the moment and didn't want to keep the communication. The last time we saw us, he told me that he do love me, but I'm confused why if he says he loves me, he broke up. He says that he would like to come back but in a far away future. I don't if I should talk to him again. I know I was very mean and very sarcastic so many times and that I hurts him. I want to change. He started to take down all the photos from social media. What should I do?
