Break up
I need some advice and encouragement. I left my relationship of 3 years today. We were homeless in a hotel for the last 4 months. Today we got into an argument and I left. I am still at hotel but in another room on another floor. My daughter who is 17 is with me. He was not always nice to her. I have no where to stay but I don’t want to go back to that relationship. It was toxic and bad for my mental health. I am 46 and scared and feel stupid. I do not understand why I miss him and he was not always the nicest person and made me feel less than woman and lower than dirt. In a text message today he told me that I was the worst woman and mom.

Thank you for sharing something so deeply personal and first of all, I want to say this as clearly as possible: You did something incredibly brave today. You chose yourself. You chose your daughter. And you chose peace over pain, even when everything around you feels uncertain and terrifying. That takes courage most people can’t even begin to understand.
You are not stupid. You are not weak. You're human. And when we’ve been in relationships that chip away at our self-worth, it’s *normal* to feel conflicted. To miss someone who hurt us. To grieve the idea of love, even if the reality of it was painful. That doesn’t make you broken it means you have a heart that loves deeply. And now you're choosing to protect it.
The fact that you’re standing on your own, even in a hotel room with nothing but your daughter and your own strength that makes you powerful beyond words. And that girl of yours? She's witnessing her mom walk away from a toxic cycle. That’s not being a bad mom that’s showing her what self-respect and resilience look like.
That text he sent you? That wasn’t truth. That was cruelty meant to keep you small. But you are not small. You are a woman rebuilding her life with courage and love, and that’s something to be damn proud of.
You’re scared right now, and that’s okay. But this fear won’t last forever. You’re already on the path out. Step by step, things will get clearer. You don’t need all the answers today. Just keep holding on to the truth that you deserve better. And you're already creating space for that better life to begin.
You’ve got this. One breath, one moment, one day at a time. And you’re not alone.

Thank you so much for those kind words and encouragement. I needed to see that. I appreciate this more than you will ever know. I was not sure if I should make the post but I needed to talk to get these thoughts and feelings out. I have kept so much in because I don’t like to bother anyone with my problems but this weighs too heavy for me. Thank you so much.
