Breakup during mental health issues

Am I a bad person for ending relationship with my ex while he was struggling with depression? He said I deserved better on multiple occasions. He never had any motivation to do anything, go out on dates with me, out to eat etc. He slept/ looked at his phone a lot when we were together. But he always had motivation to be intimate at night, which I said no a lot and that annoyed him. He said I left when he could have “used” me the most and said I’d have to prove I’m worth getting back into a relationship with. His mom got all involved too and said they all still loved me and guessed I was doing the right thing for me. But then she went and unfriended me on social media. I feel so guilty. Maybe I should have stayed and things would have gotten better. I feel like I don’t deserve to be happy or to find love again. I honestly don’t feel like dating ever again either.

No.

Let me respond based on experience.

I've been there too. I was depressed, my wife withdraw. I beat my depression. I told her that I "knew" (feeling) that she withdraw out of self protection. I told her that I understtod and that she made the best decision.

I have told her afterwards that all I needed was her putting her fist on the table saying "You need help and I am gonna get you help, whether you like it or not". You can't expect to get the help you need, it's simply not how it works.

You made the right choice to leave, otherwise you might have been pulled in to an extent that you would have suffered severe mental damage. Maybe he'll realize later, maybe not. Not your problem, you have nothing to blame yourself for. You should be proud om yourself that you pulled out, it's a very hard step to take.

Take care.

You did the right thing, don't doubt yourself. People with depression need to work on themselves before they can be y present in a relationship. Now that it's over, look to your future and let go of any guilt :)
