I don't really know where to start, so I guess a little background on the situation.

My boyfriend and I split back in April. It was (sort of) a mutual parting. I brought up an issue/concern I was having, hoping to work on it, but he decided it wasn't worth it because the problem would likely come up again later down the road: why prolong the inevitable?

The problem: we are both in University but in opposite streams. Every 4 months we switch locations. One term he is on campus in class, while I'm on a co-op work placement out of town. We would never see each other, so my concerns stemmed from there as to whether we would be strong enough. This was because it was still a new relationship (only 2.5 months).

Now, about 7-8 months later, I'm starting to miss him. I don't even know if it's romantically. It's more that I miss his friendship. We started out as friends before we took a step into a relationship. He understood me and we always had a good laugh whenever we hung out.

Would it be so terrible to text him to see how he is? See if he wants to grab some coffee sometime when I'm in our University town one weekend?

I don't want to freak him out or think that I want him back (because there were other issues that needed work), but I do miss my best guy friend.

Thoughts on how to go about this?

@alwayslove28 I know exactly how you feel, eventually you just miss them as a being. I don't know how to help you exactly, it differs from person to person.. You could move on or you could become friends again.. I just want you to know that no matter what you decide, you should decide on what is best for you. Think about how it will affect your future, will it hurt you again, if it makes you feel better, for how long will you feel better? There's so much to think about and I really would like you to consider all of this. Will you both be happier or not?

From the past 2 months I been struggling with my break up the last few weeks have been much better because I've been trying to right some of my wrongs. A week ago my best friend who works with my ex told me the he was ok with talking to me which made me feel a lot more relieved but I was nervous about calling him from yet another strange number to talk. I wanted to be serious I don't want to play any games over someone loved. Today I asked my best friend to take me to his to ask my ex to talk to me. While in the car I felt nervous a bit as I drove him I cleared it up with my best friend that my ex actually said he was ok to talk to me. He tells me he said he was ok with it but that as he felt he had kind of said I was acting selfish....and it just hit me like a brick. I thought maybe he was willing to actually work towards being on good terms and I just had this feeling maybe I wasn't doing the right thing. Maybe he might reject me cause of how I been expressing myself to him. I miss him so much that I decided last minute that I wasn't ready to have that conversation. I recognize that most of my fear is guilt driven cause of my own insecurities that I allow how I view myself to others and those things they do, who they are etc. I feel I've let myself ruin a lot of my own relationship based what I felt I expected to happen. My expectations matched my result. "He was right to have told me that when you only think about yourself you end up by yourself". (Tbh I'm high as fuck right now)

@anchoredwithhope That's the rough part. Will there always be someone else? I was alone for about a decade in the romance department, and then someone unexpectedly broke down my walls. I let her in... and then it ended. It wasn't even on a bad note. The last text I got was "ILY2" and a smooch, and then... nothing. I got ghosted and I don't know why. I have my suspicions, but... it never really ended ended... you know?

And, if she hadn't been so persistent, nothing would have happened between us. I chose to trust for the first time in a long time, and ... this. I wish I had some hope to anchor to, but I'm not getting any younger and I really thought she was the one. :(
