College Friends

I started college during the pandemic which made it hard to make friends. My best friend from high school is going to the same college as me, but was in a different dorm, so i started hanging out with her and we made a friend pagroup together.

By the second semester the friend group had split in half tand I was no longer friends with my high school best friend. I was ok with this because she was in the wrong and it took me that long to realize what a toxic friendship it was. I also still had the remaining people in the friend group to hang out with, so i wasn't lonely.

Part way through the spring semester everyone stopped hanging out together and I had no idea why. I wasn't in the same dorm as any of them and all my classes were online so i couldn't ask them in person, and i kept getting told that no one was doing anything over text.

I tried making other friends but i never made any other close friends. I found out at the end of the spring semester that the 2 girls who had been telling me no one was hanging out had left the friend group, and the rest of the group fell apart.

I spent most of spring semester thinking i had done something wrong and not knowing why they weren't talking to me.

Now I'm a sophomore and they want to be friends again, but dislike all the old members of our friend group. Everyone else has moved on and made new friends, but i was having trouble so i decided to start hanging out with them again, but i haven't seem them all week, and idk if I'm overreacting and that they were simply busy with homework or if they're going back to what they did last year and I'm going to get kicked out for no reason.

I hate feeling clingy and needy but after everything that happened last year it stresses me out when we don't hang out and i end up anxious and lonely.

Hey pluckyEyes, I think if I were in your shoes I would feel the same way. It’s hard to trust again when that trust has been broken in the past. And if you were never able to have a conversation with them where you could fill in the missing information or have any closure on the issue, I could see where you might be afraid of getting hurt again. Life can seem so lonely at times and when we give our heart out and it gets hurt it can make us feel anxious and like there’s something wrong with us. your not alone. I know it feels that way, but your not alone. I feel like people think being needy is almost a crime, they can really judge it sometimes. But it’s okay to feel the way you do, and it’s understandable, it’s only human to go through times like that. Going away to college is a big change, you move away, have new environments and friends, away from everything familiar, and then to have covid added onto that is ALOT. It’s hard when a best friend leaves our life, we were so attached to them and loved them so much. Had many memories with them and special moments. To grieve that and be nervous about that is only natural. Please know your doing a good job and there’s nothing wrong with you. my heart goes out to you, and even if these friends don’t work out, there will be others more better suited for you that will come along. Even if it doesn’t feel like that right now, they’ll come. ❤️
