Confused
I had been with my boyfriend for over two years when it ended about a month ago. I brought up the conversation, things have been difficult and not the same since he went to Uni last September, and he tried to initiate a break but I disagreed so we broke up. I think it was a massive shock to both of us. We spoke it over that night and it was so nice to talk with freedom, we then had no contact for 3 weeks. I waited until he text me and built up my own self confidence and life and do feel so much better in myself. Last week I arranged to meet him and yesterday we met for coffee - exactly 4 weeks since the break up. It was so nice, I don't think it could have gone better. I am still so confused though! I care about him so much, things went wrong and I accept that but I miss so many things about his character. In the meeting he kept bringing up how bad he felt after, we made a lot of extended eye contact and he asked me for a hug after. I feel like I'm over analysing as at the immediate break up he said we should be friends. I want him back, especially now he is home for summer, but in 3 months we both go to University in different cities (only a couple of hours away from each other) which scares me as we could fall back into bad habits I am currently waiting for him to text me, I don't want to appear needy. I wish I knew what he was thinking and also could work out my own thoughts! Confusion is making me feel crazy sometimes!

It sounds like a tough situation! It also sounds like you've found some peace in the matter too. I know it's always difficult dealing with a breakup, especially when you still care for this person. I think you've thought about the consequences well enough and you know that if you were to get back together, it may affect your life again negatively. It reminds me of a quote, "Relationships are like glass. Sometimes its better to leave them broken than hurt yourself trying to put it back together."
I guess it's a matter of what you want and would make you happy. If you are already happy and feel at peace, then maybe just being friends would be beneficial. If you still have great love for him and feel it is worth the risk to try again, then making getting back together would be beneficial. Decisions like these are different for each person, so I know there isn't a right or wrong answer. Either way I wish you the best in your decision!
I'd also recommend reading our self-help guide on Breakups. It may give you some helpful suggestions and tips on how to cope.
I hope this helps, good luck and take care!

@KindListening thank you! I think everything you said is right, it is just deciding what is most beneficial to me right now. It's true that time does heal!
