Devastated
Absolutely heartbroken and lost. My boyfriend of 6 years broke up with me and Im feeling so alone, sad and lost. We had the most perfect relationship, I felt so lucky! and were saving to buy our own house. Out of the blue he confesses to me he doesnt feel himself, no longer feels anything and has distanced himself from friends family and me. He also just wanted to be alone and focus on his job. He had previously been in and out of jobs but he has now found one he loves and is working so much! I helped him through all those hard times, now I feel he has the job he always wanted and so no longer needs me in his life. He now sees a councillor for depression after i suggested this to him. I want him to be happy however I feel like Ive been abandoned by the person I never ever thought would leave me feeling like this. Im now not enjoying daily life as Im so sad and I cant stop thinking about him. I was living for our relationship and now I dont know how to be alone. Ive lost meaning to my life and dont know how to recover from this. I have plenty friends but dont feel like they understand, they think Ill just get over it eventually...truly devastated.

@quietplane
Hey there, hopefully you are doing well. There's a few things I would like to point out;
Absolutely heartbroken and lost. My boyfriend of 6 years broke up with me and Im feeling so alone, sad and lost. (I could see why you would feel this way, you spent 6 years with him and now it really hurts things ended between the two of you) We had the most perfect relationship, I felt so lucky! and were saving to buy our own house. Out of the blue he confesses to me he doesnt feel himself, no longer feels anything and has distanced himself from friends family and me. (Hmmm this is very strange...so things were going well between the two of you, you two were going to take things to the next level an then all of this happens. I feel like there could be some sort of depression or he really felt scared or anxious when he thought of you two moving in together. Some people get cold feet before this big decision because of how much of an important decision this can be) He also just wanted to be alone and focus on his job. (He is all over the place, and has zero awareness of how he feels inside. The reality is he didn't want to take thing further because of fears, and now is planning to focus on his job) He had previously been in and out of jobs *(Is there a reason he has not kept a steady job?) but he has now found one he loves and is working so much. I helped him through all those hard times, now I feel he has the job he always wanted and so no longer needs me in his life. (Its tought feeling like this and its understandable why you would feel this way after all you have helped him, but he decided to leave because of things that are internal within him, not anything about you) He now sees a councillor for depression after i suggested this to him. I want him to be happy however I feel like Ive been abandoned by the person I never ever thought would leave me feeling like this. (Its normal the way you feel, it felt like you two were going to live together and things went well, but then he decided to end things. Its okay to feel this way.) Im now not enjoying daily life as Im so sad and I cant stop thinking about him. (This is part of the process, its just unfortunate how painful it can and how long it takes, but in due time it will improve.) I was living for our relationship and now I dont know how to be alone. (You mentioned something very important "I was living for our relationship", so this is a sign you projected unmet needs, your individuality dependend on him, and love (other things) came more from him than internally. I could relate how tough it can to know how to be alone, but its so important to have a relationship within and a sense of self that doesn't come from others) Ive lost meaning to my life and dont know how to recover from this. (You are not alone, a lot of people go through this after long term relationships. It feels dark and hurtful thinking "how can i get through this" and "am i going to be able to do this without him", but in due time you will see how strong you are and even learn new things about yourself) I have plenty friends but dont feel like they understand, they think Ill just get over it eventually...(Friends and family they try to help, however at times they might not have the empathy to understand how you feel because of their past, but its completly normal how you feel at the moment. You were with him for 6 years, so hurt and sadness are quite common to have because of the way things ended)truly devastated.
@freshLight64 Thanks for this. You talking to her help shed some light on my own situation. I was with my ex bf for 5 yrs. This year made the 5th year. I had to leave the town I was staying in in order to do better for myself since I wasnt making any progress there. Then I had a death in my family so Ive been trying to help them. At the moment I needed him to be by my side, he left because he claimed that it was better for me to be without him. He said he wanted to get himself together but said he needed to do it on his own. We had lived together and were engaged plus met each others families. Once I moved, its like he changed on me. I want him back yet I want to get over him. Ive gotten a new hobby, Ive started talking to other ppl, but then it comes back to him like all I want is him. No one else but he doesnt want me so I have to accept that. I am supposed to pay a visit to were I used to live for a couple weeks. He claims he wants to see me but I dont know if I should. What should I do?

This year made the 5th year. I had to leave the town I was staying in in order to do better for myself since I wasnt making any progress there. Then I had a death in my family so Ive been trying to help them. (Sorry to hear about your loss, it seems like it wasn't easy to go through this, and then probably feeling a bit stressed helping the family) At the moment I needed him to be by my side, he left because he claimed that it was better for me to be without him. (This is a moment where you felt a lot of emotions and needed him by your side, however he chose to leave and decided what was best for you even though he never sat down to talk with you. This shows he is unreliable and he won't be able to give you the kind of support you will need in difficult times.) He said he wanted to get himself together but said he needed to do it on his own. (This is the typical excuse people who can't handle closeness will say just to gain space and walk away from the relationship) We had lived together and were engaged plus met each others families. Once I moved, its like he changed on me. (Things were probably amazing during the fantasy stage which is where you are both talking about marriage and moving, but then once it materialized is where he got cold feet and backed away because it felt overwhelmed for him. A lot of people have this problem, where their fears, past trauma and doubts tend to attack them at full force when they are closed to the finish line) I want him back yet I want to get over him. (This sounds like an internal struggle, where you miss what you had with him, but at the same time its hard to forgive how he handled everything. It's normal how you feel about this though) Ive gotten a new hobby, (This is amazing! im glad you found something new to enjoy) Ive started talking to other ppl, (Im proud of you doing this) but then it comes back to him like all I want is him. (It's completly understandable you feel this way, you known him for awhile so the attachment is still present. There will be times you will feel this, but don't try to avoid it or get yourself distracted from it) No one else but he doesnt want me so I have to accept that. (It must had been very painful to think about it like that, it really hurts) I am supposed to pay a visit to were I used to live for a couple weeks. He claims he wants to see me but I dont know if I should. What should I do? (It's up to you, but know this though...He is the one who has to earn you back after the way he ended things)
@freshLight64 Thank you so much for everything you said. It really helped me put alot. And you are right. Im glad you took the time to reply. 😊
