How to break up with someone you love?

Hello and thank you for reading my post. :)

I feel like I have to end my longterm relationship. It hurts to even think about it but its just inevitable somehow. I love my partner but I know that the relationship doesn't serve him and doesn't serve me anymore. Its draining for both of us and the reason for that can't be changed. We tried for a long time to fix it but no chance... He told me today that he is not sure about our status anymore too and I think someone has to be so brave and just initiate the breakup-conversation. It is my first relationship. That's why I have no experience with it. I don't know what to say to make it clear but hurt him as less as I can. I don't know what the right moment would be and how to go on afterwards. We are living together. We share so much stuff. It would be so hurtful to have to sort that out and still see each other everyday...

Every answer would help so much.

Thank you already,

Alexa

Your title hit me right in the gut. My marriage is in shambles. My wife thinks she desires another person, although the evidence shows he is a fraud that only exists on her phone. This summer will make 32 years with her, 21 as husband and wife. My heart aches and head hurts to think of separating, I keep hoping she will face change, as it stands she ignores everything and appears to be chasing elusive youth. I don't have any great advice and don't envy your position. Just know that people are in similar spots and are hoping for the best for you. Have a great day.
