Hurt and Alone
The love of my life left me two weeks ago after 3 years. He was my first everything. I am someone who falls completely in love and is actually willing to give my life for them. When he left he said he needs to figure some things out. We have been trying on and off for months. Yesterday he finally explained it more in detail to me and how he is going about working on things he needs to. He said he was doing it in 3 steps. The first is seeing how being single is for him and he said it wasn't going well. The second was him going to see a girl who he isnt sure he has feelings for. Now there is a whole story to her and she isn't a good person. To sum it up, she told me to go hurt myself because he would be better off without me. He doesn't see it because she is totally different towards him. He said that he is going to go visit her to see if there are feelings. He says he doesn't see her like that and doubts it will work but is confused. And the final step was coming back to me. This made me happy because its all I want. But it makes me feel like I'm not his third choice. He is such a good person. Almost everyone in his life has disappointed or hurt him in some way. I have spent the past three years completely loyal and doing everything in my power to make him happy, including putting aside my own happiness for him. We still talk daily because we are also best friends. My mom wants me to not talk to him anymore so I can move on but I can see how hurt she is too. Both of our families are hurt and doesn't agree with what he did. I love him so much and don't know what to do. Please help me
Hi there! I think it’s weird that he has to see where things go with this other girl before coming back to you especially since she seems like a pretty terrible person. Even if he does come back, deep down would you be ok with him being with another girl? I can tell that you really love him but you’re right that it doesn’t feel like you’re his first choice. He can explore being single or dating her if he wants to but he shouldn’t expect you to be there waiting for him to figure it out. I would take this time to soul search yourself. If you still want him, you could let him know he can contact you...if you’re still interested and available! But don’t make it seem like you’re a for sure backup plan because you are worth more than that! I would also take your mom’s advice and not talk to him for now. He can’t have his cake and eat it too! Also, I’m concerned that you’ve sacrificed your happiness for him. If you’re not happy, then maybe this relationship isn’t for you. Even though 3 years is a while, in the grand scheme of things it’s not very long and you still have your whole life ahead of you. Life is so precious so make sure to spend it on people who truly care about your well being and happiness. Good luck to you!
Thank you for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it. He is kinda the only person I have. Not only that but almost everyone has hurt him and I cant hurt him like they have
I understand, my ex had some trauma issues but at the end of the day, that doesn’t mean he can treat you the wrong way. Try to work on developing other relationships with friends and family if you can. Also, work on improving yourself whether that’s trying to work on your physical or mental health or your education and career. It’s hard when you love someone so much but it’s important for you to have a life outside of him, whether you get back together with him or not, it’s going to benefit you. Hope things turn out well for you!
