In need for positivity ..

My boyfriend broke up with me 2 weeks ago because his mom is in the late stages of ALS and he needs to be there for her. He feels guilty for not being there enough so he ended things between me and him so he could help her out at home whenever she needs it. We dated for 6 months. I know it doesn't seem that long but it has been the best 6 months of my life. He was really there for me and treated me like a princess. I have dealt with a lot of pain in my life and he has helped me be a better person. Throughout the relationship I was 110% supportive of his issue and was always there for him. I never complained that I never got to see him when he had to be there for his mom and always cherished every second with him. So him leaving has been the hardest thing. We agreed to stay friends and we do talk everyday but it is so hard to be his friend. He knows that I wouldn't have mind being in the relationship and not seeing him all the time but he chose to break up because he couldn't give me a real relationship. I know I have to be there for him as a friend through this tough time in his life but how can this be easier for me?

Hey Beautiful, I'm sending positive vibes your way. Maybe you guys can get back together once his mother recovers? I've kind of been in your spot too, when you have to break up for a certain reason and it is extremely difficult to be friends. Just make sure that he knows that you will always be there for him, no matter what happens. He's going through a mentally strenuous time too, where he is conflicted with being in a relationship and having to take care of his mother. And I'm sure he wants the best for you, since he ended things because he couldn't see you often. Just stay positive for you and him both, and support him in taking care of his mother.

With love,

Valerie

Hi there, I'm glad you're reaching out. It sounds like it's a really tough time because you're feeling both the loss of the relationship and not having a reason for it, other than the circumstances. I think it shows great character that despite the pain, you're still making an effort to be there for him, and I know that must mean the world to him. But make sure that you take care of yourself, as well. Lean on your friends or on people here as you need to. Take time to do things that are kind to yourself. Be mindful of when it's too much and take the breaks you need. You can survive this. You are strong.

As a side note, I've relocated this thread to the breakups forum where more people will likely see it.
