Is it over forever?

My boyfriend of 4 (on and off) years and I just broke up. He was previously in the military so our relationship was long distance but we finally now got to live in the same area. We thought that would fix a lot of our problems but it seemed to create their own. We spend a lot of time fighting and reliving our old pain. We decided it was time to break up and even if it seems for the best sometimes, it still hurts like hell. He is my one and only love so far in my life, which makes this all that much harder. We're leaving with no hard feelings because we know there's just been so much that's made the relationship at this point impossible to repair. Im living on the idea that although it might not be now, someday things might work out. I'm scared to lean on this concept because I don't want to inhibit myself from moving on, but I'm not sure how to do that or really even if it's wrong to think. I'm just looking for any advice on ways to overcome this heartbreak or thoughts on if this can ever be repair with the necessary time away.

Thanks for sharing here at 7 Cups. Sorry to hear about your recent breakup. You've been asking yourself if anything is likely to change over time which may bring you back together. A question might be, were they any differences that led to your breakup which may cease to be an issue over time?
