I thought I'd feel free

June 29th, 2016

I just broke up with my boyfriend of nearly 2 years. I honestly thought I'd feel free, relieved or at least something positive but I dont. I feel sad and empty. I can't sleep. It was my decision to end it and I know it was for the best. So why don't I feel better?

He was emotionally abusive, drank a lot and constantly borrowed money that he never returned. The situation was not healthy. I know it was the right decision. How can I deal with this pain? Does anyone have any advice?

2 years with someone is a long time, you are going to miss the feelings, the emotions, the comfortableness you had. But you say so yourself, you know it was the right decision. Change takes time. Everything takes time, and unfortunately because of that, everything requires patience.

Talk it out with some friends, have a cry - don't try to bottle it up, because crying is normal. If you feel you need more help, talk to your Doctor

It's reasonable to feel that way especially when you got out of a long relationship.

It's really great and admirable that you could recognize that your relationship was an unhealthy one and that you took the step to end it. No one automatically just "feel better" after ending a relationship., even if it's a bad one. You loved him and he loved you, isn't that why you two go together in the first place?

The best thing you can do is be true to your feelings. Cry. Don't bottle anything. You deserve to be sad. You deserve some alone time.

Then only after that, you can start to truly heal and start to move forward again. Find activities that you are interested in. Find something you like doing. Treat yourself. Hang out with your friends. Chat with your bestie. Explore the outside world. Go for a hike. Go to the gym Make sure you don't stay home all day long so you do not have to think about it all day long.

You did a difficult yet amazing thing for yourself. I respect that a lot. And I know within due time, you'll start to improve and feel better again. Remember to talk to people about your feelings, there will be people that care about you if you seek.

Best~

@SenpaiXD thank you so much. I feel like I have no right to be sad because it was my decision, but you are right. I will try to take your advice.
